Hiya again my daughter.... lol
I'm not sure if its a girl thing or a charlie thing but charlie is alway grabbing herself (sorry not sure if i should used proper names or nick names for it)
She tells me it hurts so i put her in the bath, i cant see anything but to be honest i dont know what i should be looking for as i was brought up that my body is something to be ashamed of. please help
Hi
If your daughter has been exploring herself then she may have scratch herself which could be making her hurt. To be sure that there is nothing serious going on then I would have her checked by your doctor, nurse or health visitor.
have read other peoples comments and theyre right this can be totally normal, as in the whole discovering thing. but it sounds like it could even be a UTI or something. i would get her checked out it it lasts any more than a few days. also i read that someone else mentioned something about soaps having an effect, this is also a good point, something which i myself had forgotten until now- sodium laurelth sulphate (spelling may not be 100% correct) is supposed to be not very good for girls in that particular area. if this keeps going ir if she has re acurring attacks that maby you might look into a bathsoap that dosnt contain this. i find johnson+johnsons cake of soap is ok and huggies liquid soap also dosnt contain this chemical.
well most kids do tend to touch tehm private parts as its natural but if she is telling u it hurts and u cant see anything i would take her to a doctor
Using correct terminology for a vagina is normal and frankly the right thing to do. If we can't call it what it is then we are silly.
Anyway, I would take her to the doctor if she continues to complain. If it is short term, then the heat could very well be the problem. I know when it gets hot here and my pants are a bit tight, mine can hurt too!
Try giving her a drink of cranberry juice and see if that helps. Its supposed to fix UTI's. Might be a simpler option than taking her to the doctor, and then if the pain gets too bad, and that doesnt work you can rule it out.
I just thought I'd add another possible cause for an UTI. Bubble bath. One of my little sisters is very sensitive to some bubble baths and that would cause an UTI. Some of the kiddie bubble baths are surprisingly harsh.
So that may be something to check, if you've been using a new bubble bath or soap. You wouldn't want a repeat infection after you've gotten her feeling better.
I agree totally with what the others are saynig although i would add that she may also have "worms" (yukky i know) but soeimtes when our little gorls get worms they tend to travel up and around the vagina but always do go back to the rectum.
Horrible thought i know but I too have seen this around. I was talking to friend who has just got back for WA and accidently picked up worms whilst over there. She was upset about it and I told her to deal with it . . they are just like nits - if your gunna get em your genna get em! I told her if she keeps freaking out then all she will do is freak out her kids.
Anyway mate just to be sure it wont hurt to try some combantrin whilst waiting for a Dr's app.
Keep in mind with " worms " they generally are more irritating at night which makes your child unsettled. That's also mostly when you can actually see them....they are so tiny and resemble little strings of cotton so inspect at nights. Don't forget to check your daughters knickers you can sometimes see them in there too.
i do agree with the others you should take her to your family doctor if she says it hurts she could have an infection which could be quite painfull....
Hey there, I would take her to the doctor or child health center...... there could be a few reasons for this one could be a urine infection which can be quite serious if left untreated or another could be thrush, another could be a change in laundry powder, heat to name a few.It is quite OK to name her genitals as vagina or your nick name for them.I dont think any one will get offended LOL I hope not I always say vagina or penis.let us know how u go regards Merle
I would take her to a doctor as she may be developing a Urinary Tract Infection. My daughter had this once, and I've seen it heaps in my job working with children. Girls seem to be prone to it. One of the causes is not enough water, another cause is staying in wet togs for too long after leaving the water, another cause is not wiping properly after doing a wee, and there are other causes too that I can't remember right now. It's common for girls, so I would have it checked out as it's not something you will be able to see just by looking at her.
I often have to remind my oldest to do "front, back, toss" with the tissue. When she complains about her vagina we do aveeno oatmeal in the bath & let her sit in it then when we dry, we apply Dr. Smith's which is good for diaper rash and she usually is fine after that. If this doesn't work, take her to the dr.
The children I see it happen to the most are toilet trained but 'forget' to correctly wipe, or maybe are not sure how to do so. It could also be from citric acids like too many oranges or any number of reasons, these were just the main ones. Could also be that she was holding on, not wanting to interupt her play to go to the loo because that's how I think my daughter got it. Too busy playing to do anything else, she did that too often then got an infection. Just watch her too, littlies like to play with themselves a lot as they discover new body parts but they may have been playing in dirt or with something that could be bad if it's on their fingers and they put their hands there. I was brought up the same way, our body was something to be ashamed of but have changed my way of thinking since having a child and in particular working with them on a daily basis. Good luck and I hope it's nothing to be concerned about. UTIs only need a course of antibiotics then they're gone, my girl's only had one once so we've been lucky with it.
