hair washing

Hi, Just wondering as was chatting to some of my friends and wondered how often you wash your babies hair. My son is 9 months and i wash his hair every other day as it does tend to get a bit sweaty and he has a lot of it. Also how often do you bath your baby. I do everyday but i know some do every other day?

you shouldnt wash your hair more than once or twice a week as every time you do, you strip the scalp of its natural oils.

i know for the first week it feels grouse but trust me once you make this your routine your hair will look the best it ever has, and for bub it will help to maintain healthy oil balance and his scalp will become less oily.

i would use natural shampoos on him too, most are oil based, ie almond, palm etc and so they dont tend to strip the natural oils away but replace them as well.

Buby has been bathed everyday since birth and hair washed except for the first 2 days out of hospital ( i was scared as he didn't like them and I didn't want to upset him). I notice some babies get that yuck milk smell when they arn't bathed. Now he is 10 months he is always filthy and has 2 showers a day, with me in the morning then with dad at night.

i think a baby needs to be showered every day as they are in nappies all day. how would you like it if you only got a bath every 2nd day. i wash my daughters hair every 2nd night and my boys have a shaved head so they really don't need washing but i still do theirs.

Our daughter will be 11 months tomorrow. Since we brought her home from the hospital she has had a bath everynight. We usually wash her hair as well everynight. I agree with some of the comments here, routine is best. She is wide awake in the tub, once we get her out and start to dry her off she is starting to rub her eyes..

Hi
Wish we could bath Jalan every second day....she loves her bath and plays up if she don't get it
She tries to have 4-5 a day. Her own plus with my shower, Darren's shower or bath and both the teenagers... We are slowly weaning her of trying to have a bath with everyone who has one when she is awake but a screaming toddler is pretty hard to ignore.  And she throws a massive tantrum if we dont let her in.
We have tried a lot of things but this one is a water baby
A lot of times we leave our showers til after she has gone to bed to cut down her water time....
She is happy just to sit under the shower while we have ours
Yes we put a special oil in her own bath to compensate for the extra showers.
As for her hair unless she gets something in it we usually wash it 2-3 times a week with her johnsons baby shampoo.
We have found this plus her bath oil tends to ward of the cradle cap
Luv Deb

My bub is 5 1/2 months old, and I bath him every other day, so wash his hair every other day. He does have a full set of hair, and find that washing hair every day is a little hard on the hair. Do what works best for you, and change your routine as your baby gets older. All the best

Oh, everyone's putting me to shame! We have two baths for the kids a week, unless DD1 is muddy/painty/sweaty etc. I wash her hair once a week unless it has mud/paint/food/etc in it. When she was little DD1 hated baths with a passion, which you might be able to see from this pic!

So there really wasnt any incentive to bath her more than once a week then! It certainly wouldnt have featured in a calming bedtime routine - solid screaming time from one end of bathtime to the other! She was never sicky so I just topped and tailed her in between. I steered clear of shampoo and bubblebath for ages. She didnt have much hair (1st cut at 2).

Later on she developed eczema and I've heard that baths can make eczema skin more itchy so perhaps it's just as well.

In the summer I'll fill the padding pool with soapy lukewarm water so she gets an unofficial bath when she's playing out there, but then she is a muck magnet in the garden!

my kids hair is washed every day as they have there nightly bath so i can have a break as hubbie will watch them until it ready to come out and we will take one each lol . You can wash hair everyday if you wish or every other day its all up to you and what you think. Best of luck and you are a great mum.

I give my son a bath every 2 days, even now at 2 years old (unless he's been playing outside). But definitely during the first year, I only gave him a bath every 2 days. He suffers from milk eczema so it isn't good for him to be washed all the time, as this strips the skin of it's oils and dries out the skin.

Before they start walking, they really don't get too dirty anyway.

I wash my daughters hair everyday in her nightly bath and have done since she was 4 months. Before that it was every second day.

Now that she is mobile I have really stuck to a rouine and washing her hair every night in the bath is part of her night time ritual.

cheers Kellz

We bathe our baby every day so she knows its time for bed basically. Her hair is washed every other day right now, but on days it is hot and we are outside a lot, sometimes I have to wash her hair everyday b/c it smells!
