I have 2 gals one had the dummy and 1 didnt. My oldest had the dummy until she was 2 and half. She only needed to go to sleep but she used it. Some parents dont like the idea of dummies but if its working and making you child happy and like me got night sleep out of  it whats the problem.Did say to hubby if she still has dummy at xmas we will tell her that santa is going to give her a special present if she gives him the dummy but she stop using it about 3 months b4 xmas. Some kids have dummies and some have teddys and blankets that is  what makes them comfortable and a peace. I suppose there comes a age where u have to make a decision but thats up to you and no one can say nuthin bec its your child and u really know whats good for you child.

I would be very wary giving the dummy all the time.  The children in my room at daycare get it for sleep time if needed, or to comfort them, but if it's for comfort I hold them too and give them a cuddle, then when we've finished and it's no longer needed it goes back in the bag.  The children in that room are 15 months.  A baby from nursery who is just 15 months and ready to move up came outside with my toddlers for a short play yesterday and as soon as I said to the girls in her room that I was going to get the dummy off her she can't have it outside and headed over to get it she tripped.  Teeth went through the dummy, 2 front teeth were pushed to the side, the gum between the 2 front teeth was cut all the way up and she had a fat lip too from it.  There was so much blood, I've never seen so much blood from one little girl, and her dad had to leave work to take her to the hospital.  I'll find out what the damage was today I guess, but that just goes to show how dangerous they can be.  I think if it's for bedtime, only give it in bed or if it's for comfort give it along with a cuddle then get rid of it for play time.

when i was about 4 tears old i feel down the back steps and landed on my face, i had to get stiches pn my upper lip still visable today slightly, but if i didnt have my dummy in it would of been alot worse, lillian only has her dummy at night when she goes to bed, sometimes as well when she is really upset and its for comfort. i do see alot of children that a way to old for a dummy in my area but then again my area isnt the best (i wanna move...........)

I can relate to that about wanting to move, but i've got a home loan with this house, and it's really cheap, even if i move and rent it out the rent won't cover house repayments, or only just, then i'll have high rent in another place anyway.  The kid around the corner from us is 4 and has one in her mouth 24-7 and i think it's disgusting. But that's just me. I never gave hannah one at all, but thought i'd share what happened to this child as it did a lot of damage and it wouldn't have left a mark if she fell over without one.

Hiya

My little one had his dummy until just before his second birthday.  I thought that I would never get him off it.  He loved it and had it all the time.  A friend recommended that we say the Dummy Fairy was coming and would leave something nice under the pillow to replace the dummy she took away.  So we did that and have never looked back.  I was surprised at how easy it was to get him off it.  We did prepare him for it for about 2 weeks before.  I was so proud that he was able to give this up.  It only took about 3 days and he never mentioned it again.   Probably the hardest part for them is to be without it is at night but see how you go.  Good luck.

my daughter only took to the dummy at around 8 months and only as a soother to make her fall asleep. By 11 months she was now getting a bit too attached to it so i started letting her see less of it. Eventually just after her first birthday i forgot it at her granny's place, and she didnt ask for it and forgot she even had it.

hi there, Koen actually rejected the dummy at 6 months, which was kind of a relief because i know that the older they get the more they get attatched to it.
