Switching Childcares

I have had my child with ABC and would never go back to them.  They don't care, they are crappy and they cut staff and combine age groups wherever possible just to avoid paying any staff.  It's not about the kids, it's entirely profit driven.  My daughter fell over which was just an accident, I was there and saw it but they wouldn't put ice on it or write an incident report because it was a head injury and family services would have had to investigate.  It was not the fault of the staff and I know that, I was there, but they did the wrong thing anyway.  I have worked for them, they only have to give staff a minimum of 12 hours a week at work so they cut hours if children call in sick and try to send home as many workers as possible, leaving children with carers they are unfamiliar with.  ABC has now taken over my child's centre, and even though the staff are still the same, it's evident that changes are happening and the children are not as well cared for. Last time she was at ABC and I pulled her out she was only going a few hours a day and wasn't yet 2 so she hadn't made real friends at that time except for one child who we were friends with outside the ctnre anyway.  I'm wondering whether to look for another centre and just pull her out, or have her still going a few days a week to her current centre until she has made friends at the new centre? How would I change her? Or is it better to just pull her out and put her in full-time to a new centre?

Ok now u r making me scared. I have just enrolled jenaya and she loves it there. I have not yet seen the staff doing anything else but being with the kids. The fees at this one are actually less for me than the community based one she went to last year and she can stay there longer too. Mmmm thanx for the heads up and i will keep an eye out but i have to say, so far so good

My son went to abc and I had so many issues that I end up taking him out of child care for good he has changed 110% for the worse. I agree that they are not the same some are good but I am not going to experiment any more. is in my blog but basicly they never took him to the toilet, they spend 3-4 h a day outside. he had bruses and skrech marks no one knew how he got them. they never checked his bag and because my son does not eat pasta that much he was never offered anything that he ate I send lunch box but they never gave him that. and many other things I was shocked as I expected much more from them.

wow, that's a bad experience. I would have pushed further with that.  I think the staff are dedicated but expected to do too much which takes away from the kids.  If i had to take my child out i would have to quit work so she's staying in childcare as i have no one else to help out with her care.

Regardless of who runs the centre if they are doing the wrong thing (like not writing up incident reports) then they aren't doing right by anyone. I have myself used an ABC centre . The staff were friendlty and helpful and went out of their way to accomodate my son (we needed emergency care in another town while my DP was in hospital) there was always more then adequate staff (more child:carer ratio then the daycare my youngest currently attends) and my eldest learnt many new things in  he short time he was there. I wouldn't have like to pay the fees but if I was going back to work becasue that would have taken over more then half a pay packet. I do think there are just as many bad centres who aren;t ABC as there are good ones.

Anon:- Do what you feel is right. You know your daughter and you have experience with this before so I think you already know the answer to your questions. Hope all works out for you.

i have not been to the centre so i dont know what goes on ther e, if there are issues that should be looked at , in the way the children are being handles ie too many children to staff ratio , then you should just get them investigated ,

All days centres are run by  driffrent owns but under the name of the franices linces , So not all  ABC centre are the same . I never like the centre  but that me and for my own reason s .

If you don't like the centre its best just to change all together .Your child be better off just going to the one . She made new friends quick enough and you both be happy.

Just because your child is in an Abc centre that may not be the best please do not put ALL Abc centre's in the same category! I work for Abc and yes they do not look after their staff and Yes they do cut cost but their policies are set at the highest standard. Our paperwork is phenomenal and it is based around the children who attend our care. As for a head injury and not writing it down due to being investigated is a load of bull, whoever told you that has made a serious breach as writing it down is EXACTLY what they are required to do. Children are always bumping their heads, that's kids if the department came everytime they would never have time for anything else. The only time this is likely to happen is if the child required medical attention at a hospital or medical centre. It is merely recorded for your safety and ours and ice is always applied, that is just general everyday TLC. I would raise these concerns with your centre director. I work for Abc and I have to say I couldn't work with a better team and we take a personal interest in every child that attends the centre, there isn't a family we don't know. I feel sad that you have had this bad experience but please spare a thought for those of us that do the right thing and put up with the crappy wages just for sake of our love for those children in our care.

I have worked for ABC and had my child in one of their centres.  I have worked at many ABC centres, and they are all the same. The staff could be the loveliest people and as i said at my last centre, i would trust any one of them to look after my child, just not at the centre.  I know how much paper work there is which is why i won't be Group Leader at one of their centres.  I don't think there was any stab at staff, just at the company itself.  There isn't enough time spent with the children because it's all about paperwork and how much the owners can make at the end of the day.  The staff try really hard and it's hard not to work for them since they have a monopoly on childcare and I give full praise to the ones who stick with it and are committed to their work.  The fact still is, it's all profit-based and not about the children anymore. I would be able to spend more time with the children going in as a volunteer than the staff are able to by the time they through the paperwork.

my child also attends an abc center and i think they suck not only do i feel their fees are out of this world i still have to pay full fee for public holidays when they are closed and im not allowed to swap a public holiday for another day during that same week, also on the staff issue at the moment the center my son attends they are 3 children over their limit in the babies room and want to move my son up to the kindy room 5 months before he is due to go he is not 3 until august  they also were without a qualified staff member in his room for 3 weeks as the staff are not getting paid treated very poorly and four of them have left
i am soooooo over abc and any one that agrees i would love an email to say so as im trying to get as many as i can together to forward onto abc
they are their for the money only and why should we pay for their lack of  consideration for us and our children
any emails will be greatly appreciated

thanks guys

Hi,

I agree with Abc being all about money, beleive me I work there and I still pay huge fees for my child to attend, as for them trying to move your son up stick to your guns and ask them about their policies. It is their fault they have overbooked your sons room but he legally cannot be moved up into the Kindy room until he is three as the ratios of children:staff are based on an over three age group.I haven't yet come across a centre that doesn't charge public holidays so I'm not sure you can do anything about that.

GOODLUCK fight for better staff treatment while your there...please
