Sometimes she will want to eat a whole piece of toast and some yogurt but then she will not drink her milk.. I don;t know what is more important the food or the milk?? I assume the milk but I do not have a clue..just wondering whats others think.. thanks in advance!!

I wuoldn't worry  as long as she getting  a bit of both  its ok. yougurt , custard , cheese , dairy food anyway   evrything be fine. Some children don't like cows milk or fourmal milk  after coming  off beast milk  , but they do get use to it after a while .

It win't matter if your little girl gave up all her milk, if she is eating a balanced diet which includes dairy, ie. yoghurt, cheese, custard etc she will be fine. It is great she wants to eat and isn't filling up on milk instead which can be a common problem. Try not to worry. She sounds like she's gonna be a healthy little girl.

Hi, Fact is a child will not starve themselves.  That being said, I stress everytime my son's eating habits change (he is 13 mo).

But, when it comes to food/milk...food takes priority at this age.  Whether formula or breastmilk feeds, she will be reducing this once she hits 12mo anyway.  After 12 mo the concern is calcium intake not so much milk intake.

If you are formula or breastfeeding, do this seperate from the solid feeds.  That way, she won't fill up on one and neglect the other.

By 12mo she should be down to 3 (breast) milk feeds a day and the recommendation is to get rid of bottles at this point as well.  Transition to cup feeds if still having formula which should then change to whole milk.

Also recommended is that milk consumption afer 12 mo is only 200ml with the remainder of calcuim come from other sources...ie 200g yogurt, cheese, and other calcuim rich foods.

Hope this helps a bit.

Angela

Every child is different if she is satisfied with food alone so be it my oldest stoped at 11 months too and there is nuthing wrong with her but my youngest is 19 months and she has got her bottles still its up to the child i think. As long as her diet is a well balanced one , things are good. Good luck but if you are really concerned you can always talk to ur health sister or doctor!

With all my kids they let me know when they had enough somedays they would eat everything that wasn't nailed down and others they barely picked. I think it depends on the child and how much they are growing and how active they are. I think you should not worry about the milk so much if she is prefering the other foods at the moment then maybe she is ready to cut out one of her bottles. How many bottles does she have a day?

I would say as long as she has enough of one or the other at the meal time, don't get stressed out over it.  She will soon let you know what she wants and when!  Enjoy her!

your daughter is old enough to decide what she would like to eat and drink. she is eating yoghurt so she id still get her dairy in other ways. my daughter is 21mths and she won't eat breakfast she will only have 2 bottles of milk and she has done that since she was about 10mths. so i wouldn't worry each child is different.

what you are doing is fine

Hi, My daughter absolutley hated formula/breast milk but would drink water, flavoured water ect.. pure fruit juices (not from concentrate though-she loves Innocent smoothies!) She also love all types of veg, fruit, bread ,pasta, fromage frais (good source of calcium), cheese, infact anything we would eat she would also try, if she liked it whoopee, if not don't stress try something else. Your baby will not starve herself, it's just a case of letting her try different foods, as for her not drinking her milk, I wouldn't worry too much as long as she is NOT becoming dehydrated in any way & she is getting calcium from other foods, like you said, she likes yougharts, thats good! Personally I found that By the time my daughter was your daughters age (Sophie is now 2) she was much more interested in solid foods & completly gave up having milk through a bottle before she was 1yr, but likes & still does milk in her cup whether it be slightly warmed of in the form of a milkshake. If you are at all worried or concerned, please contact you Health Visitor/GP, that is what they are there for, to reassure and advise us parents (after all it would be so much easier if when your child was born the came with a instruction manual ha ha ha!) Don't stress your mothering instinct will always lead you in the right direction for what is best for you & your Daughter, Hope I have maybe put your mind at ease a little, let me know how the both of you get on , take care, Sarahx
