Hates the nappy change

I know this is so normal but driving me a little nuts to try and be patient about but my baby, who is nearly one, HATES getting his nappy changed. Any advice will be welcomed. I've tried distracting him, trying to do it with him standing up, did it while he was playing in the lounge room (as opposed to his change table) Ahhr!

My daughter is the same... she twists and tries to roll over and screams... it's actually kinda funny. I usually take off her diaper and clean her off as fast as possible and then let her run away for a second. then i either put the diaper on her while she's standing, or i lay it over my thigh and put it on her while she's sitting on me. I'm hoping it's a stage that she will get over soon, cuz man is it annoying some times... LOL

Just like mamabear, I sing to joe when i am doing it. His fav song is wheels on the bus and it keeps him amused (most of the time) or if not he finds it funny if i pull his socks off then give those to him while i change it and then slip it back on again afterwards.

This will sound weird but I used to put a toy in my mouth and shake it. This would distract them and then they will really really want to play with it because you had it. By the time he actually got it the nappy is off and the next one in the process. It works most days - not every day.

sippy cup.. Give him something to drink while you are doing it. If you are still doing the bottle give him that.. My son was a stand up kind of guy too.. LOL so to speak.. He has calmed down a bit now... But when I knew it was time for a change I'd just put some water or milk in a bottle or sippy cup and he was happy with that until I was finished doing my job...

Good luck...

When my little-man went through this I found the easiest way to change him was on the floor in the family-room with the cartoons on the TV.  The cartoons usually distracted him enough to get the job done.

Anything to distract him, and always on the floor, because I was afraid he'd fall off the change table with all his struggling.

I used to sing to my daughter when she was having her nappy changed.  I used to talk to her lots too with nappy changes.  I had her in cloth nappies and through the day was fine to do it with her standing up but at night I used pins for overnight or the snappi would come loose and the nappy would fall off.  She had to lay down and have it put on.  Have you tried putting towelling pants on through the day? My daughter was that age and not toilet training, but I found she liked having the towelling pants on and it made it a bit cooler for her too as it was getting warmer again by that time.  I would suggest trying different things, but singing seems to work with a lot of babies and toddlers.
