Stopping screwed up periods.

For just about all of my life I've had totally screwy periods. There has never been any regularity, not in when they turn up or what they are like when they do turn up.

Apparently I have some sadistic mongrel's who name I can't remember syndrome, and that's the cause. My totally screwed up periods also can make me very very ill. Now, I've tried various chemical treatments, and the only thing that has ever helped is the contraceptive pill. But that makes me more ill when I do have them, even though they are more regular.

So I was wondering (I'm asking because I've asked different doctors and have been given different answers, so looking for some personal experience here)... If I was to not take the sugar pills and just keep taking the pill so as to stop my periods from happening at all, how long can I get away with doing this without causing myself problems further down the track? Are there any problems with it?

The contraceptive injection stops my periods completely, but it also crucifies my sex drive and makes me put on huge amounts of weight. Might taking the pill this way do the same?

My other option is a hysterectomy, and I'd prefer to not go there for the time being if there is any other way. Has anyone else gotten rid of their periods for an extended time by using the pill, and if so, what was it like?

Stopping screwed up periods-having the mirena insert
the marina is good for some woman, but there is aways some that cant have it as well. i had that inserted 3 years ago and for the first 6 weeks i experienced really bad period pain, and was thinking of having it removed.. but after them weeks i was fine.. it can make you still moody, and there are side effects.. best thing is to ask your doc would this be suitable for you.. also with the mirena it stops your period for 5 years...

i know i dont have painful periods (well any at all ) but when i was younger i did...

i tried all brands of the pill with no luck...they all made me very ill...i tried the injection and was not able to cope...it also made me very ill..... I get cysts (PCOS) as my ovaries dont work properly so when i did get a period it was very heavy...... and then i went 4 mths on average without

Now i get none and i have just 2 years ago had an IUD put in........ it actually stops periods in women......I just wanted to mention it.....

i know its not probably much help

Hi... i didnt get them  regular b4 IUD as i have PCOS ...i was lucky to have them 3 times a year,.....i was blessed to get my 2 kids.......

But my gynaeo said most women on the IUD end up having their flow stop while on it....I tried the implant and various pills and  hated them all...  ..... I have had my IUD for 2.5 years and have nothing .... not even a spot...

Just pulling this off the top of my head but have you tried or heard of the new ring?. Unsure of its name but it is inserted into the vagina and gives off lower does hormones than the pill as is goes straight into the bloodstream?

Hi this is not my personal experience but I have seen this before (only this person's stopped for a couple of years completely). This person started seeing a type of natural pathic doctor who over time has helped clear her body of different toxins and heavy metals and what not to help her. After a while her body started getting more healthy and she now gets her periods.

I do however have experience with the shot. I don't recommend it to anyone. I personally think that it should be banned. It makes you moody, gain tons of weight, and stops your period. Women are meant to have periods. I have heard (please don't quote me and please remember this is opionion only) The hysterectomies can cause you to go into immediate menopause. I have heard that for each person it could be different. I hope this helps

Have you tried taking birth control at night with a light snack? I have the same problem so the doctor told me to take it at night right before bed, with a light snack, a few crackers with cheese etc. This helps me. You could also request a low dose of hormones. It may take you trying a few brands to get one that works.

Tried that. Always have taken them at night with a light snack, and have tried more brands than I can ever hope to remember the names of. Have changed to new brands every time one comes on the market just about.

I to have suffered really badly with mine. Sometimes they are late, sometimes they're early or is it the other way round????? I can't tell as they are never ever regular ! I did the not taking the sugar pill and for me it messed me up even more. I would still have a light one every so often but still had some of the symptoms. Then when I came off the pill completely they were even worse than before. I also stacked on the weight, experienced acne for the first time. My doctor said that to skip one period this way was fine, two at the most but warned not to do it for an extended period of time. The amount of hormones that you end up putting into your body is almost like an overdose. This is only my personal experience. I have had friends that have done the same thing and been fine. There are so many different pills out there these days that hopefully there is one that can work for you. Best of luck honey and one day hopefully we will both find something that works for us!!!!!

yours in pain and frustration,
fiona xoxoxxo

I don't know about the pill messing it up into the future, but I remember on Sunrise one morning they had a doctor talking about a specific pill designed to put an end to periods.  His logic was that we don't need to get a period.  The way things used to be with us, and still are in tribal communities, etc, is that a girl would start to mestruate at around 14, fall pregnant with baby number one at around 16 or so, breastfeed for the first couple of years and have another baby every couple of years, therefore eliminating periods.  He said that research has proven that women who live this way are healthier for longer and don't need hysterectimies ever.  I found it quite odd, but then when I had Hannah I didn't get a period from the time she was conceived to the time she was about 2, except for the few days following birth.  I don't know about the normal pill, but you could try asking what that pill was as it is designed to stop the period altogether and he said it has similar side-effects to the normal pill and it won't interfere when you try to conceive.  Worth asking about anyway.

i've had this for ages too my last preganancy seemed to clear it up a bit, i tried the pill for three months straight and it caused me to have cysts on my overies (egg half out in a lil bump on the outside of the overy) so yer i wouldn't recomend it esp if you want to have anymore kiddies, it took us nearly 8 months to fall after i stopped because it messed around with the periods even more... hope this helps :)'s for you wendigo

hey wendy
as for your screwed up period, i myself have had this for different reasons. My screwed up period only happens when I stop taking my depo needle and i will have very light bleeding on and off soemtimes every week or 2 only usually lasting a day.
The pill should help your screwed up period if you stop taking the sugar pill. I didnt take the sugar pills for a year almost and as soon as i missed one i got pregnant (well i think this is how i got pregnant)
I hope you can fix your screwed up period cos they aren't nice :)
