Coke question got me thinking!
Whilst this isn't related to coke i am just wondering....
How many parents don't feed their children a certain type of food because
a) you as a parent don't like it
b) couldn't be bothered to cook it AND
c) aren't willing to pay the amount for the food (including healthy vegies and fruit) that your child would like to eat?
Just a few questions i'd like to be answered HONESTLY!
Thankyou

Coke question got me thinking!
as a parent to an food allergy child, there are certian things that do not come into my home, but i eat outside the home and not infront of her.
but then I hate sweatcorn and cauliflour with a passion, yet i still cook ii for my daughter, as she loves it, because there are so many things that i can't give her, so I have choosen not to deny her the things she enjoys, but there are time that I think, why do I have to cook it, prepare it and then serve it, just to have it sitting there and my duaghter saying I don't want that tonight.

Coke question got me thinking!
Hi Emmysmum.
In all honesty, All 3 of those factors influenced what I fed my daughter... I was mostly vegetarian; so I didn't cook meat for her. When I stopped being vegetarian, I still wasn't any good at cooking it (& it was generally too expensive anyway) so I didn't bother. Being a sole parent, most of the food I prepared leaned towards the cheap. Oddly enough, now a lot of the vegetarian stuff is very expensive... So I've finally learned to cook meat. Tho I still lean heavily on rice & pasta. I will say tho that my daughter often liked things I didn't. So we could go out for a salad & she'd eat all the things I didn't like (we could share one plate); mushrooms, radishes, pickles, capsicum. So that made for an economical treat!
Parenting is hard enuff w/out putting ourselves thru the wringer, trying to keep up w/ all the latest dietary fashions. When I was a child I was fed on lamb chops every nite & lamb roast on Sundays... the vegetables were all prepackaged, overcooked, tasted of bland soap & disintegrated on contact w/ cutlery... That was cheap at the time. When my daughter was a child she was fed on lentils, potatoes, plain yoghurt, brown rice & bean sprouts... She hated it until she left home; then she rang & asked how to cook lentils b/c she was missing them... Just as I developed a passion for lamb chops when I was in my late 30s (I hated them w/ a passion up until then). Tho I still can't come at overcooked frozen veges . Lets just feed them whatever comes to hand (& try to work in something vaguely healthy once or twice a day). Too many kids & parents end up tied up in knots around food. Less stress makes for happier childhoods!

Coke question got me thinking!
What dont we buy...
Eggplant
Turnips
Radishes
Squash
We buy all the basic veg broccoli, carrots, peas, corn, spinach things that I eat and enjoy. I wouldn't even know how to cook the other things lol
I didn't buy bananas when they were $20 a kg... that is just too much for me to be able to afford.
I dont buy roasts very often cos I cant be bothered cooking it. And I wont buy potatoes often.
i wonrt buy anything like custard, icecream, yoghurt and flavoured milks because Jaidan cant have dairy. We buy soy milk and their dad brought them a treat of So Good Soy Icecream the other day and they loved that.
I wont buy chocolate, chips, frozen chips, lollies, unhealthy stuff cos if its not in the house we wont eat it.

Coke question got me thinking!
I myself dont eat any seafood at all, but Koen still eats it, every once in a while ill buy the fish and Daz will cook it for Koen and himself, so Koen still gets to eat what i eat plus more.
i think i would allow Koen to eat pretty much everything( minus the sh*T organs from animals eg. tripe, kidneys, brain, tongue, etc etc)
I dont give Koen lollies either, maybe a chuppa chup once a month if that. Koen loves his peas! just like me, i tried to avoid bananas when the price was sky high, but thats about it,
once when i couldnt be bothered to cook, i went and got maccas and got Koen a Pasta Zoo happy meal, and he wouldn't eat it at all.
xx channy

Coke question got me thinking!
To break it down. Foods I don't feed my child because:
a) well, I try to get her used to things even if it's something I don't like because I'm raising her to enjoy food for what it is. I don't like cabbage, but gave it to her in her first year to get her to like it. I still don't like it, but I put up with the taste for her to have it.
b) I'm a vegetarian. I won't cook meat. Having said that though, she has red meat at daycare and I do buy her tuna because she loves it and I don't need to have anything to do with it other taking it out of the tin and putting it in a bowl for her. Also, she loves salmon and avocado sushi which I buy for her each fortnight so she's not denied meat, I just won't buy it except in tuna form.
c) ok I've seen some fruits and veges that are a rediculous price. I don't like us to try something I've never seen before if it'll cost us an arm and a leg, but bananas and avocados are a favourite in our house and I still buy them when they are expensive. Just not as often as when they're cheap. I tend to go shopping twice a week, at different places, and buy what's on special that week. I go to the markets and buy the organic stuff which doesn't cost any extra but doesn't have pesticides etc on it. So if an eggplant was to cost $11 I would leave it there and come back when it's cheaper, we can live without it for a while.
Hope that answers your question.
