Day Care Options

I would like to know how early you should organise Day Care before you actually think you will need it?  Also, what would you say are fair daily/weekly rates?

All of this talk about a lack of child care options in Aus is starting to worry us and we are only about 10 weeks pregnant!

Thanks!

I would look around a bit closer to see what the vacancies are like, but it depends how soon you want your bub in daycare too.  I have never had a problem getting my daughter in anywhere, but she went to a crappy centre to start with and you don't want that. They had heaps of vacancies and I should have asked them why they had so many vacancies! When I got her into a good centre, it was a recently built centre and she was over 2 at the time. THe older they are the easier it is but I know where I work they won't talk to mums until they are 6 months pregnant because they don't stay in the babies room for long.  If they spoke to mums who were only just pregnant they would have mammoth waiting lists.  It really depends on how soon your child will be left in care how soon you look for care.  Good luck with it, I know it's a hard thing to do. I want my child home with me every day but it just isn't possible.

Day Care Options
I have tried centres and dont like the fact that  there are so many babies and it feels less focused on my child.... My son went to day cares and i waited 6 mths to get a place and couldnt get a place to cover the hours i needed with travel and such to work..they all close at 6 pm where i am and i couldnt get back from the city that quick.....

My daughter is at a home based family day care place but only 2 days a week...where there are only 4 kids and we waited 6 mths to get it...she loves going and is very loved by her carer and family...... They can only have 1 baby under 12 mths and 1 from 12 mths to 24 mths.... she gets attention like she would if she was at home...... Its a lot better priced and it works around my schooling....i like getting the interview b4 i say yes or no too......

what type of care are you thinking centre or smaller?and where are you located?..... its different in metro and city....i was on a list for 1 centre for 12 mths before they had a place and by then i had gone with home based

Day Care Options
I would generally want the best care possible for our baby but as we live in Erskineville I have a feeling that my options are fairly limited.  I have put out a few feelers and am hoping to get the ball rolling very quickly.  My wife is a bit less enthused about the impending arrival so I want to make things as easy on her as possible.  If anyone can suggest a home care option in my area I would be very greatful.

Hey...

I did some research for you and found this link....Each section services a geographic region that is wider than just the postcode in which they are located...so find whats closest and give them a call.......
www.familydaycare.com.au/index.html

Theres a pic of Aust at the bottom where you actually pick your state....... Hope it helps..... I love family based care...... and so does my bub.....

good luck with your bubs arrival.......

I use Family Day Care and for my first child I waited about 2 weeks before getting a place. Whenever we've needed to change, we've found places very quickly.

It's around $4 an hour for Family Day Care.

Don't worry about it too much, though it is worth doing your research to see what would suit your family the best.

Day Care Options

All depending on what area you are in but in my area i can choose where i like to go!!!! Prob 4 years ago was different but i know of 5 new one s in my area. You need to check and ring around and see what the vac's are like. Ring local council because they usually have one run by them and they seem to be a little cheaper than the norm. The rates depend on if u get a rebate from the government. If you get 100% you pay between $25.00 - $31.00 per day on casual. Full time prices are different and those positions are harder to find(full time). low income worker that only gets 45% pays approx $50-$60 a day my sister in law tells me.  Well if you are only ten weeks in and you think there is a shortage in you area bybe it would be best to put your name down when you are about half way through preg. Dont know if they would do it but you can only try. There are other options as well like day careers through council and they are the cheapest but name has to be down for a while to get on of those positions. Some people like that idea and some dont it a personal one.

Good luck Tee
