ear infections

Just a quick question! I took Lily to the out patients last Thursday, (the dr there was an ass, but that's another story!) because she was vomiting and had the runs since sunday, and was told that she had an ear infection and that was what was her problem was, and prescribed anti-biotics.

First time parent here, but I've never heard of an ear infection causing vomiting, and God know's Lily's had more than her share of ear infections already, none of which make her throw up. None of my cousin's (who have 10 kids between the 3 of them) have heard of it either.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has ever heard of this?? I made an appoint ment with her regular doctor for Thursday, just to get her checked out, but I'm just curious.
Thanks all!

my youngest had heaps of ear infections as a bub and yes she vomitted lots with them, its mainly a mucous thing, it runs down the back of their passages and naturally curdles with any milk food etc.

my girl it turns out was lactose intolerant which also made her vomit.

I thought the drs were crazy when they diagnosed Hannah with an ear infection when she had pneumonia.  Then I found out that the pneumonia was a secondary illness and that the ear infection was only mild which is why I didn't notice it.  It's funny how things work sometimes isn't it?

It is possible for your daughter to vomit.  When you have an ear infection, if it is in the lower/middle area, especially, it can cause an upset in her balancing system.  Like when you spin around really really fast and get dizzy and queazy.  But there could also be a stomach flu in her too thats making her have the runs.  The runs can be from alot of things and having an ear infection usally means that there was something in her system first and it traveled there.  I would wait on seeing another doc to give the medicine time to work, but vomiting can be from ear infections.  And depending on the medicine, that can cause her runs to continue too until she is done or her body adjusts....

Yeah... I kinda think she had a stomach flu first and then got an ear infection. I'd just never heard of the throwing up/ ear infection thing.
Thanks!

yes my daughter has done the same thing once a nd my friends little boy doing it right now. sometimes it can make them vomit ect. also due to the nature of ear infections because they are often secondary to a virus or watever already in there system it might not take much for them to feel really off and nauseous ect.  also the antibiotics in young children often give them diarreoah. but if u dont think this is the case  then id go see another dr. some of them esp in er's think mothers are idiots some times, but u no best.

My son has had a few inner ear infections and has thrown up as a result of it and has had the runs with it too. inner ear infections are deep inside the head and close to the brain so any infection can result in vomiting and feeling off. I hope this helps i suppose children have to go through these horrible infections just to build up immunity later on in life.
