feeding in the air

How can I bootle feed my baby (15 weeks) during takeoff and landing? Due to new security regulations I am not allowed to open bottles (they will be sealed by airport staff) in the plane.
As the baby has to be placed in the bascet  an I will not be able to breast feed without performing acrobatic excercises.
Has anybody experiences? I would be very glad to get advice :-)

As Chelinkal said. They do not actually allow you to put the baby in the bassinett during take off and landing. The baby is on your lap with a special seatbelt that clips through yours. You are able to breast feed the baby in this position. I have recently survived four aeroplane flights with a three month old baby between Australia and New Zealand and this was my experience.

its only during take off and landing .. either feed her before or just after take off when they say you are allowed to take off your seat belt ,,,

when they say during take off and landing they dont mean the whole streach in between also! they only mean the climb up and the descent down, depending on where u r going u r talking about 20 mins max. just feed b4 then while ur cruising along in the air. i think u should should clarify the rules. good luck, its not usually as bad as u think it will b!

If it is true you are unable to open bottles (although I don't think this is true because you have to be able to feed while the baby is on the plane) you could try a pacifier/dummy.  Also, you should be holding the baby on take off and landing and NOT in the bassinet.  Breast feeding is possible then.

Hope this helps.  Good Luck

What country are you flying out of??

In Australia, they make you strap the baby onto your lap with a special strap that goes through your seat belt.  They wont allow you to place the baby in the bacinet or even lower the bacinet during take offs and landings.

Depending on the length of the flight maybe you could get away with having the bubby wait for a short time?  How do you change a dirty nappy? maybe feed the baby after a nappy change.  Surely they don't expect a baby to stay in a dirty nappy that whole time?

hi Miriam

i bottle fed my son when we were taking off and landing, but that was before the new laws came in

i think the best thing to do is ring the airline you are flying with and ask for their advice. i think that once they are sealed to go on the plane, you should be able to open them once you are seated. the airline would be the best people to ask! they are generally pretty undertanding when it comes to infants and children!

hope this helps

thanks a lot for all the advices. I called the airline (we are going to spain from Germany) and they said they neither have baskets nor belts for the baby. So I will cary him on the knee and breast feed whenever i like to.
