Thrush in women

I know this is going to sound as though i'm really stupid, but for thrush, i know it's got to do with yoghurt, but what i want to know, do you actually eat the yogurt or do you rub it in and around your private part to get rid of thrush?

Hi there

Yoghurt is fine to put around there and it will help ease the itching until you get something from the chemist like that once off pill.

Maybe just fish out the apricot pieces first hehe!!!

Both, but you have to use a yoghurt which contains no sugars, yeast infections feed on sugars so you would just feeding it more fuel if you use sweetened yoghurt. Try to avoid all sweet foods especially stone fruit, high yeast fermentation there! Tea tree oil in a bath or just diluted and dabbed on is great as it is anti microbial ie kills bacterias and taking an acidophyllus at night before bed, you can also use those as a pessarie.

I worked in Pharmacy for 5 years before having my children & have come across this question many times. Yoghurt is best used as a preventative - eaten. You need to get a cream such as Canesten (a generic brand will be fine) or there is a new treatment now that is a tablet taken once but you need to speak to a pharmacist to get any of these treatments. Also Acidophilus is a big help & can be used as a preventative too - it puts the good bacterias back in your body.

Twenty years ago, my then partner had a bit of thrush and being pregnant at the time , she asked our Dr what to take for it. This Dr said natural yogurt applied to the affected area would be fine, this sounded a bit strange to me, but we went home and followed Dr's orders and it worked a treat. It helps balance the good and bad bacteria or something like that. Ian

I recommend eating it or the other could be interesting PMSL.make a weak solution of vinegar and water and wash your vagina (not douche) I have found that roskens vitamin E cream actually clears thrush up,and a daily application has prevented a return as well.Try taking some acidophilus and bifidus tablets they put back all your good gut bacteria.Cut back on yeasty stuff as well (no more booze for you pmsl) regards Merle

u are supposed to eat the yoghurt but that really only works with oral trush and to prevent trush from occuring again u r better off going to the chemist and getting some caniston for adults or daktarin for lil ones and trush on nipples and oral thrush itll cost u about ten dollars but will last for ages. good luck with it!
