9-month old allergic to SOY

We just found out that our son, who is 9 months old, is allergic to soy, egg whites, and peanuts. He has only had soy since we haven't started feeding him eggs or peanuts because he is less than a year old. Anyway, we stopped breastfeeeding at 7 months and he has been on formula. The problem is that milk-based formulas CONTAIN SOY! Anybody have good formula siggestions? Should we just switch to cows milk? Thanks!

research has recently shown that allergies have risen because children haven't been allowed near the product for the body to be able to build up an immunity to it!
This happens with food products, grass, and other stuff!
My advice is to go see a doctor and throw at him what i just threw at you!
Ask you doctor if you keep giving your baby formula will it kill him.... because baby's need to build up an immunity against allergies, and the more you give them a product, the better the body will know how to fight it!
DON'T TRY THIS WITHOUT SEEKING MEDICAL ATTENTION...... IT IS VERY DANGEROUS!!!!
DON'T TRY IT IF YOUR CHILD HAS PEANUT ALLERGIES EITHER....
ALWAYS SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION!

this is true but you need to start off by removing the allergen all together, thus giving the immune system a chance to grow strong and then over time SLOWLY reintroduce foods, sometimes it can take years to get over and some people never will.

myself and my daughter are both allergic to dairy, wheat and gluten and while we can both have small amounts at times, if we binge we both pay for it and i can tell you now being pregnant and craving all of the foods i know set me off has been a battle! plus my immune system isnt as strong as it normally would be so it hasnt taken much to set my allergies off.

as i always advise with allergies keep a food diary so you can monitor how things effect bub, and dont forget symptoms can be varied, mood swings, rash, upset tummy, ear aches, head aches the list goes on.

My daughter is a year and a half and recently I have changed her diet. I have taken her off cow's milk (dairy period), wheat and I don't allow her sugar (sometimes when we're out she might have a cookie or what not). Anyhow, she used to get these dark lines under her eyes until I did this. In exchange for milk I make her almond milk. 1 cup of almonds to 4 cups of water. I also got colloidal minerals from the health food store and she gets 3-4 drops of those a day (those are all the minerals that your body needs naturally and provides all those nutrients she needs). With these 2 things combined she no longer has the dark circles and is much happier.

i would try cows milk, watch for any reactions or goats milk formula is another alternative. When you start cows milk its a good idea to try half/half bottles ie water and milk and slowly increase milk.

Hi.

Sorry I can't help you with the formula advice, but being allergic to soy myself, I have found out that it is in almost everything!

Depending on the extent of your son's allergy you may have to change your whole diet, as soy flour and other soy products (emulsifiers, oils, vegetable shortening) are in bread, pasta, ALOT of snack foods, sauces, marinades, seasonings, ...  Soy emulsifiers are also used in alot of products, but not listed as soy... just listed as emulsifier 322.

Hope that helps a bit..

I also have the soy allergy  which can also cause severe migraines, having this allergy can drastically change your eating habits, alot of foods will have to be prepared freshly. In my household this is quite a problem as my daughter is also lactose intolerance, be sure to also watch out for the following numbers as well as a few i dont know as these are also soy lecithin and can cause alot of problems, 471,472.476, and 478.

God, what a bummer.  Did the pediatrician or diatician or whom ever diagnosed his allergies not recomend to you a safe alternative??

Back when I was a baby and previous to that (as I'm not THAT old LOL) the formula, my Mum informed was just powdered milk.  I have no idea really or any kind of nutritional education but it seems to me that if he is eating solids well (assuming he is) he will be getting vitamins etc. from that (as long as it's home made and not processd ALL the time) so cows milk or powdered milk (full cream) should be fine.  If you are worried that he is not getting everything he needs, find out if he is old enough to have child vitamins, maybe they could be crushed up and added to his milk or food???

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.  Personally I would ask a child care nurse or someone like that.

Best of luck to you all.
