Hi there,

Doctors, Midwifes etc will all tell you NO . . Pillow are strongly advised against!

I never gave my children pillows until they were 3 and even then only flat ones . . My now 16 yr old has recently been told that she has a lovely normal spine which it seems they don't see too often these days . .  So she told them about my pillow rule and she was shocked to discover that the doctors were full of praise.

So my advice would be to hold off . . . Pillow are a luxury not a necessity.

Cheers Kellz

Hannah was 19 months old when she started daycare and that was the first time she had been given a pillow.  It was only for daytime rest time, she never had a sleep, but it made it more comfy for her to read books on her bed at daycare.  She never slept in a cot but I've been told never to have pillows in a cot. Not sure how long they're in cots for since I never used one.

My kids didn't get pillows tell they moved into a "big bed".  So for my eldest she would have been about 22 months.  My youngest was nearly 2 and a half.

I had always had the SIDS warning about no pillows drummed into me so I didn't have any pillows in their cots at all.

every child is different there fore every child is going to be a different age sienna was six months and would not sleep with out a pillow but her is a suggestion if you are worried my nurse told me to put the pillow under neath the mattress that way she is elevated like a pillow does however she can't be at any risk of her head falling underneath the pillow good luck. Hi there!

I wuld prob say about 8 months but i used pillows from wen both my kids where 3 months because they werent sleeping well so i introduced a pillow under a fitted sheet and a small clock that made a ticking noise so they thought i was near them. Its a personal choice and if u are affraid put pillow under the sheet so they cant suffercate themselves. I was told i couldnt use a pillow but if i was going to the heath nurse told me to put under hte sheet(fitted). Good luck with this.

Hi. We gave our son a pillow at about 12 months - just a little cot pillow. This was just before he moved into a bed. If you are giving a pillow you want to make sure it's a flat one as they don't need much support there. It's really up to you but I would say not before 12 months. Hope this helps!

I agree with you that a cot pillow would be best and not until after 12 months.

I'm sure I have read that it is not recommended until after the first year anyway.

I'm not sure what age you are supposed to give them pillows, but I personally gave our daughter a "cot pillow" when she was about 10mths old.  This was because she was using either her blankets scrunched up under her head or a teddy.  Ever since the sheets have stayed on and she hasn't had a problem yet.  Basically I think that if you baby can roll over and sit up to get away from the pillow if it gets on their head.
