play dough

I made my son some play dough today and the recipe I have is way to sticky and hard to play with.  Does anybody have  a good play dough recipe that they can send me?

Re: play dough
Hope its not too late ,, I got this from the huggies website. www.huggies.com.au

Basic Recipe

There are many recipes available for Play Dough but this one seems to work every time. It’s best to play with it while it is warm but it’ll also keep pretty well in an air tight container for a few days. Of course you can buy a tub at your local Kmart if you prefer. Either way they’ll love playing with it.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 tbsp of oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • ½ cup of salt
  • 2 tsp of cream of tartar
  • 2 tsp food colouring (optional)
  1. Mix everything together in a saucepan.
  2. Cook it over a medium heat (don’t burn it) stirring and folding over constantly. The mixture will lose its stickiness and will start to gather together in a big blob like pastry does.
  3. Once it does this take it off the stove.
  4. Turn it out into a floured board and knead it until the mixture is smooth.

Hi, if you buy a tin of Cream Of Tarter the recipe on there is perfect... it's what we use at daycare and it lasts for weeks.

Re: shamali

I don't have a tin here but if you want that recipe you'll need the cream of tartar anyway and it's on the tin so ... either way you'll get it.

Cheers

The other thing with playdough is that if its too sticky you just have to add a little more flour, just a tad. And if its to dry just 1/2 a teaspoon of water usually is plenty. :)

Sticky/dry dough

LOL That's what I do and we usually end up with double the quantity we planned to make hehehe but that's ok, it goes further, particularly in daycare. They can all have a little more or I share it with Nursery/Kindy.
