formula or cows milk

i was just wondering when i can take Anthony off Formula and on to cows milk. I have been told the formula at this age is mostly for iron. he is eating read meat at dinner with us. Is that enough iron for an almost 1 yr old?

Re: formula or cows milk
Thankyou everyone, this has helped alot. He does have cows milk on his weet-bix and has since he was 8 months old. No signs of allergic reaction so far so i guess he isn't allergic. Thankyou again.

Re: formula or cows milk
babies under twelve months should not be given cow’s milk, this is because it is too hard for babies to digest and cow’s milk does not contain the appropriate concentration of protein, fat and carbohydrates. After twelve months cow’s milk should be introduced slowly, watch for allergic reactions......regards Sandra xxx

they are suppost to be on formula or breast milk until they are a year....then on Homo milk until they are 2.  You dont want to do it early because they need there bodies cant digest cows milk until then and they need the fat in the homo milk until they are 2 for brain developement.

Re: formula or cows milk

I took my son off formula when he was about 10 months old.  A little early according to my doctor, but formula is EXPENSIVE.  I actually started giving him Silk, which is a soy milk.  (The very vanilla silk tastes just like vanilla ice cream)  It is very good for them and has plenty of calcium and iron.  If your worried, switch him to milk and give him iron supplement drops.

Most of us never even had a taste of formula as infants and were doing just fine, so don't stress.

Once they are a year old you can start weaning them off the formula.

Alex was 13/14 months, but there is one just for todlers that has all the vitimins that they need as well. i found that it was cheaper to use formular than milk, but couldnt be bothered with the whole thing anymore.
