Kidney reflux

My 4 year old daughter has Grade III kidney reflux.  This is a hereditary condition (yes, I had it too and had to have surgery when I was 3), that causes urine to back up into the ureters and into the kidneys.  It causes chronic kidney infections if not treated prophylatically with antibiotics.  My daughter will soon have a relatively noninvasive procedure called "deflux" or "the sting".  Has anyone or their child had this procedure?  Just wondering what to expect.  I was told it's "no big deal", but I'm a mom and.......

Re: Kidney reflux
my son had grade III kidney reflux with his right kidney and grade 4 with his left. No surgery was need because of the medication he was put on when he was 6 weeks old. by the time he was 2 they both had fixed up. He is now 7 and a half and has had no return what medication is your daughter on.

Re: Kidney reflux
Lucky you!  My daughter was diagnosed at 6 months and has been on medication ever since.  She was originally diagnosed as a grade V, but has since improved to a III at age 4.  The doctor's do not think her's will repair itself, so we are gonna try the deflux procedure in late July.

Re: Kidney reflux
My daughter didn't have renal reflux but did have a stent put in (pyloplasty) to clear a blockage in her ureta. It was uninvasive because they didn't cut her open. But they went in through her urethra up through her bladder to the ureta and put a little tube in. The surgery didn't take long at all...it was day surgery. She was six weeks old at the time...so it's pretty amazing what they can do. She had tests done (nuclear medicine) for renal reflux but it wasn't it and unfortunately she ended up having to get her kidney out when she was five. I know it's not what your little girl is having but it sounds like a similar procedure. I would do some research or ring the hospital or surgeon to get more info so you can get prepared and let your little girl know what happening too so she doesn't panic when it's all happening. Best wishes Txx

Re: Kidney reflux
Thanks for the info.  I just found out that I have a neice that had the deflux procedure (some kind of aunt I am, huh).  Anyway, I found out all the in's and out's of the procedure.  I think I'm gonna have to write some advice about kidney (vesicoureteral) reflux.  It is extremely common but often goes undiagnosed.  Symptoms are written off to ideopathic fevers or just another UTI.  Anyway, thanks again.
