My mother-in-law just informed me that with every second baby born that the mother gets really bad uterus contractions everytime she feeds. She used the word 'excuriating' and said it only happens with second babies.
With my first baby I could feel my uterus contracting while I was breastfeeding but it wasn't painful.
Is this second baby thing true or is it one of those things that can happen to anyone with any pregnancy?
Have any of you with more than two kids experienced 'excruciating' pain with your second child and not with the rest?
Some of the things she tells me are very strange but I thought this one I could definately check with all the mum's on minti.
I've got 2 kids and didn't have any sort of pain with either. My best friend had it really bad with her first though. I havee never even had let down pains of any sort - maybe I'm just lucky!
ive had 4 children and the first and second one i hade contraction pain while breastfeeding , with the twins and my last one i didnt notice it as much ,,, maybe also that was because i knew what to expect
Hi There Lauren125,I can say for myself it was like feeling you're getting your period, you could feel the contractions, sometimes more than others but maybe it was due to being over tired. I can say this, for the five times it was pretty much the same. Best of luck!
well yes it was quite uncomfortable... for me only when I was feeding, alot of the time I had to stop feeding because it hurt so much.
But my uterus contracted very quickly, it was a good thing, it isn't nice but it doesn't last a long time, don't be afraid... I just feel sorry for people who have like 10 kids, does it get worse each time or what???
I never had this happen to me that I can remember but with baby two, I had the worst let-down reflex when i breast fed. I hurt so bad but it didnt happen with my first. But as for the uterine contractions, nup, not with me! Maybe, i was lucky...but i aint having another baby to find out!!!! lol
yes it's true. Some woman have it worse than others but it does pass after a few days, usually by the time your milk comes in they settle down a lot and it usually only contracts when you are breastfeeding, why - I'm not sure, perhaps someone else can shed the light on that. It does happen with the second and subsequent babies, but not to everyone and in varying degrees.
hi - just read that someone else got them even though she didn't breastfeed, so maybe that's just when my post contractions happened. Dont worry about it all too much, just relax as much as possible and ride it through. The more you relax and breath through them like normal contractions the better you'll feel. If it gets too bad, just ask the midwives what you can take - you'll probably be on panadol anyway.
i had that with my daughter id cry during feeds as it hurt so much id had a previous pregnancy tho where i lost the baby last in th pregnancy so maybe thats why. im havin another bub soon and even if i feel this pain agian it is still totally worth it i love breastfeeding the pain only lasted a few weeks with em then i was fine. good luck
I've only had one baby so can't say from my own experience. But we have a number of mum at daycare who started their toddlers at childcare while being pregnant with number 2 and the ones that have had babies have ALL said about this pain they had that no-one told them about. My daughter's aunty had it with her her second. My mum had it with her second and not with her first. But there was a large age gap between second and third and it was like a first pregnancy all over again. Every one of them has said it's like being in labour again and one mum said she thought she was having another one and they never detected twins on any ultrasound. Good luck and I guess you'll find out if it's true or not but all of them said it only happened during the first couple of days.
Well to my experience, I had these pains with my second bub Taj and yes mine where excrusiating. I never had them with my first Bree
No-one ever told me about these until after i had my second bub Taj. then everyone was like "OH YEAH, forgot to mention that" How convienient of everyone LOL Ive also been told the more bubs you have the worse they get, but i cant quote on this as only have the two kids.
yes thats true and you get them even if you don't breastfeed the more you have the worst it gets my 3rd omg i thought i was in labour all over again. so your mil was right ask any doc they will tell you the same thing just a little more in detail lol
Hmmm MIL's there should be a law against them giving unsolicited advice... JustJokes Sylv - if you read this : )
Like all pregnancies, all post pregnancy experiences vary. Yours will be a unique experience, and you shouldn't be worried about it. Your MIL may have experienced this pain (poor thing), however that has no bearing on what you will experience.
