Boob's.....

Hi.

I have a 6month old who is a breast feed baby. I have favoured my right breast to feed from since he was born for some reason, it just feels more comfy. For the last 2 months the right breast has increased in size(wether its empty or full) almost double at times compared to the left. Even when the left is full it is STILL not as big as the right. Even when the right breast is empty the size is still quite alot larger than the left!

Has anyone else had this happen???? AND if so is there anyway to enlarge the left so that they are simular in size permanatly????

Thanks Guyz

Re: Boob's.....

You have probably been reassured already, but I just wanted to add my bit. My daughter only ever fed on the left (she absolutely refused to feed on the right - a doctor accused her of being socialist!) and sure enough, fairly quickly my right boob began to produce less milk and got smaller. As suggested, a breast pad on that side helped and no one ever noticed. Only a few months after stopping feeding, they were both the same size.

Because of the habit (I'd fed my daughter almost 10 months) I only fed my lad on the left. Again, slightly lopsided but son evened out. To be honest, it probably happened even before I stopped feeding as the boobs get more efficient at producing milk and get smaller anyway. Now I have stopped feeding him, everything is back to normal again, and that's after feeding him about 14months.

I don't think you have anything to worry about and as long as you can be comfortable with being a bit wonky for just a short time in the scheme of things, no one will know and soon, neither will you!

Re: Boob's.....

You should start alteranting sides. This wiil increase the milk production in you left and decrease it in the right which should hopefully get them back to near the same size. My bub drinks from both each feed - he did go through only having one side for a few weeks but I alternated every feed. My first always had both sides at each feed. This is the best advice I can give you - good luck!

Re: Boob's.....
I have a friend who has one boob bigger then the other.. She also favored the right one over the left one because it was easier to do things while walking around and breast feeding at the same time.. I'd say try using the other side for awhile to try evening them out..

But honestly I have no suggestion what so ever to help out with this one sorry....

Re: Boob's.....
Actually breastfeeding doesn't do a thing. Before we fall pregnant we have immature breast tissue and during pregnancy this changes to mature breast tissue. Whether you BF or FF your boobs will change. The best indicator of how your boobs will be is your mother. Mine were doomed for failure(thanks mum!!!) but my SIL will get to keep her perky boobs cause my MILs are great after BFX 2 and FFX1 child

Re: Boob's.....
You can fix it, like the other moms said, let him nurse from your left breast majority of the time until it's supply increases.  This will enlarge the breast, then you can nurse from both at the same feeding, just cut the feeding in half, for each side.

Re: Boob's.....
At least boobs are never the same size to start with - there is a huge difference between mine!  Instead of switching during the feed, try and alternate boobs at feeds for instance  the left one now and then next time the right one.  Here the advice now is NOT to switch side, but to alternate at feeds.  Just to make you smile - when my daughter was  about 2 and a half, I was still feeding her the last feed at night.  (My baby and all that!) One night I took her up to put her to bed and duly got the boob out for her.  Tried to get her to latch on, but she turned her head away and started crying saying "No! Milk - milk!"  Well, that told me and that was also the last time I even tried to feed her!  She never even noticed!!

Re: Boob's.....
Yeah, i have a 5 mth. , and i feel the same too.  They say that u got to switch sides after 15-20 min, coz then they drink milk equally frm both sides.  But when i`d switch sides, she`d so upset and no matter how hungry she was she`d refuse to drink.  I guess she didn`t like switching , i mean she didn`t like getting distracted in between feedings.

Re: Boob's.....
Mine bit my right breast when she was 11 months old and as a reflex I smacked her leg.  Regretted it ever since, and still feel bad as she was asleep at the time and bit it because I took her off and she clamped down because she wasn't quite finished.  She completely weaned herself off that breast, never had it again.  My right breast got larger as it was still producing milk but the baby wasn't drinking it.  After a few months, it got really small and only produced a little bit of milk.  I still expressed from both sides.  Then my left breast was larger than the right, and I was still lop-sided.  I found that putting a breast pad on the smaller side and not on the other side made them look even to everyone else.  By the time she was 2 they were both the same size again.  You can't tell the difference anymore so it's not permanent.  Just one of the things us mums have to go through I guess.

Re: Boob's.....

well i don't think we're ever symetrical, but i've not had that much difference!!

i try to alternate feeding sides and that helps, as for keeping them big... after my first when i dried my milk up i went back to my original size!!

so i'm not sure what will happen this time cause they're bigger!!!

i guess only time will tell!!

lol xxxx.

Re: Boob's.....
Yep my right is bigger then my left even nearly 2 yrs on (still BF). I have always favored my right as my left is dodgy!!! Oh well all thats about to change as I have to wean off my right side to have a fibrocystic thing surgically removed.
the only way you are going to get them back on track is to conciously feed equally off both boobs. It may take a little while for things to settle but otherwise they will be lopsided until you wean.

Re: Boob's.....

it has enlarged because its now making more milk for bubba so it keeps filling up the more you empty it ,,

you will have to let bubba feed more often from your other breast now i dont know your feeding possitions but there are  a few you can try

, having you bubba lay on a pillow sideways so its tummy touches yours as you feed making sure ithe head is facing the left breast

another way is sideways

have bubba lay under your left arm also on a pillow to support it and to also help you and lift his head under your

breast , i dont know ho to explain this i hope you are following me ,, to increase your supply you will just have to let bubba feed also from the left side ,,,
