Guide

I was wondering if anyone new a web site or books I can buy as a guide to what your child should be drinking (formula or cows milk) and how many meals she should have. Sophie is nearly 1 and I just don't know what to do anymore. She has even been waking up about 4am crying, but still asleep off and on. She is teething I think (her back teeth) sleepless nights are not working for me. And help or advice on this would be much appreciated. Thanks Tracey

Re: Guide
I have this great book called the baby whisperer, and it has a chart broken down into ages, by months, on about how much the child should eat. It says that by the time your chld is 1 they should be eating 3 meals a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and having 2 snacks. One in the morning and one in the afternonn. It also says that once a week at 1 year old you can start letting baby try the "proceed with caution" foods. They include diary products like cheese, yogurt, and cows milk, eggs, honey, beef, melon, berries, citrus fruits, pork and veal. But to stay away from nuts, shellfish and chocolate. If your baby is still breastfeeding or bottle feeding, try to cut it down to just twice a day, morning and night, by 18 months if not sooner ween them completely. When you start the milk, try to replace with with one bottle a day, then work up to two. This may take time, be patient and persistent. And look out for any allergies. I think you are supposed to give your child 2-3 sippy cups of milk (one sippy cup is about 8 ounces). But you will have to work up to it. And remember to use whole milk. Good luck, I have a neice a little older than yours if you have any more questions.

Re: Guide
They can have cow's milk from 12 months provided there are no allergies to it.  3 meals a day and 2 snacks is generally what they are eating by 12 months, but smaller amounts.  I had a child who ate better in the first half of the day.  Big breakfast, a fair bit for morning tea, her main meal at lunch, then smaller amounts for afternoon tea and dinner.

Thanks for that I think Soph is a bit the same, my only concern is that she is not full enough to get through the night....

Re: Guide
Mine had a breastfeed in the evening right before bed and took anywhere up to half an hour to feed, but she then slept for 12 or more hours without stirring.  I would change her nappy before I went to bed but she wouldn't wake up at all.  So even though she had hardly anything to eat, just a vegemite sandwich at 5pm, the milk seemed to be enough for her to stay asleep for the night.  Maybe give a piece of fruit or something right before bed if she doesn't sleep all night, I guess it's a matter of following her cues.

Thanks for that I will give it a try. Your lucky that your baby slept that long.
