pet names/ nicknames

hello there,

got a fun one for everyone today...

i was chatting with my four year old earlier today and automaticly called him by my nick name i have for him, to which he reply "why do you call me that", "that" being pumpkin and i call his 2 year old brother pumpkin seed.

this got me thinking as i cannot remember why or when i begun calling him pumpkin i just know that is what i call him. but also i have a 5 year old nephew who has a perfectly good name yet i've always called him "my jellybean" and my step daughter i call " my angel".

so i ask everyone do you use yourself or know of funny/serious pet names/ nick names, and can you remember why they begun?

well have fun

What a great question!  Such fun answers too.  Here's mine:  My daughter's name is Elizabeth, and from a young age she developed a lisp.  We have since helped her to correct it with speech therapy, but when she was really little and first starting saying her name she couldn't say it correctly.  Instead she would say "Eliza-biff".  As you can imagine, it wasn't long before her nickname became "Biff" and then "Biffy," and now "Biffy-love."  I'm sure there will be more incarnations as well.

I don't use nicknames as such, but have added a new name to the kids. My eldest is David Paul, I added Xavier, Next Alexander William, added Ignatius, Connor Patrick, got added Aloysius. Then he started adding his own names, He now proudly tells people his name is Connor Patrick Aloysius James Frederick Charles Peter Matthew John Joseph H, quite a mouthful, but he keeps adding to it. leisa

Re: pet names/ nicknames
I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks and all it looked like to me was a poppy seed.  So she had the nickname Poppy from the time of conception, well before I knew if I was having a boy or a girl.  I didn't want to know.  From about 6 months old she was called Hannah Bear.  Not sure why, it seemed fitting.

Re: pet names/ nicknames
Well, lets see. I've always been called Janey or T-Jane by one of my uncles ( my middle name is Jane). We call Jack Fred half the time don't know why, we just called him that one day & it stuck! Mum calls him JJ (Jack James). Oscar gets Sparky from us - my hubby just called him that one day & bought me to tears as that was my late nanna's nickname & hubby had no idea! He also gets Occy from my mum but we are trying to stop that! My husbands name is James and he gets Jamma or Jimmy or Wilko (last name Wilkinson). I call my sister Bubby n- even though she's 18 now - and always have.

When my son was first born we called him 'mini me' from Austin Powers cos he was the exact double of my husband.  Now we call him 'smelly butt' (Elliot) cos he's always lettin' rip like a typical bloke!

Re: pet names/ nicknames

Kailen gets called Grub mainly..because he is one, or possum, or trouble..as he always seems to be in it. He even calls himslef these names. Possum when he's upset, and he even pats my back as he cries (it so cute) and says "come on possum", and if he's into mischief and I ask what he doing, he yells out "get out trouble" or just "trouble".

But if my father calls him a little man, he corrects him and say "No, Boy" or his name.

Re: pet names/ nicknames
Koen is my "boof-head" or "turd" i guess i call him by those names coz he is so rough.
My nieces Tiana is ''banana'' coz it rhymes? Monique is ''chicken'' because she has little chicken legs and Sharni is my ''bullfrog'' because she is rough like Koen...

weird pet names huh...?

Re: pet names/ nicknames
My sons name is Francis, and sometimes I call him Frankaphone (not how it is spelt but it is a real word). I  call him that because some people here in Quebec call anyone named Francis, Frank... And being that my son is a little french speaker I call him Franckaphone.. Where as I have english as a first language I am an englaphone.

And some times I call him, Aussie because he is half Aussie.. and when I call him I say Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi... And he comes. :) He finds this very amusing because it is very animated when call him like that.

My son calls his sister pookie.. Now this is a weird one as we don't know how or where it comes from as it sounds nothing like Camille and is able to say her name with out any trouble what so ever... So she has become pookie..

Re: pet names/ nicknames
Well it's amazing that Jayden even knows his name - probably because we always introduce him formally to new people.  He gets called Jellybabee, Jay, JJ, Jaydee, Booboo, Micro Man, Midget and just about everything except Jayden by us.  He is quite assertive, so I imagine he will put a stop to it soon enough, I figure he will be Jay when he is older.

I have a couple of tall friends that call my friend and I the munchkins, and from school I was LL (luscious lui - yeah, I have outgrown that), and Lu, and from footy they call me Lui, as it's hard to say Luisa when you are running on the field with a mouth guard in.

I call Steve Scuba Steve, from that Adam Sandler movie where he adopts that kid.  The girl won't kiss him, but she kisses Scuba Steve, so he is my Scuba Steve that gets all the kisses.

Having written all this, I can see how lame nickmanes are LOL!
