My baby doesnt want to stand..

My 5month old baby won’t stand on my lap when I hold her under the arms. I didn’t think this was an issue until the Pediatrician told me she should be holding her own weight by 4 months. Since I was told this I have noticed other babies do seem to stand when held. Mine just laughs and kneels! Does anyone know anything about this and if they have heard of it being a problem?

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
Hi, All good advice but if her retained reflexes (baby relexes - doctors know little about) aren't integrated teaching her to stand now will create problems. She is only 5 months - probably won't even sit for a few more. Everthing babies do they do in sequence to graduate their brains and laern to live. If the sequence is longer - so be it. If there are any problems after say 18 months and she has had a difficult birth look for a good chiropractor trained in cranial manipultaion - does wonders but make sure they are trained in it.

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
Today I met a 10 month old girl who walks around the furniture and walks when holding your hands. She crawles everywhere fast and well. Yet when you sit her up, she just falls and cant sit up, which most babies do around 6-8 months and well before they walk.

My point is that some babies do things all the wrong way around. The fact she giggles and kneels tells me its probably not an issue or she would cry. She can obviously stretch her legs out otherwise your would have said that so its probably not a muscle issue. She will do it when she is ready I think.

If you are still worried about her go and talk to your health nurse or doctor and they should be able to tell you if its medical or if she just doesn't want to do it yet.

Thanks Girl, but she isnt that heavy hahah she is 7.7kgs. But your right, i have never heard any Dr saying babies should do anything by a certain age, so ill just let her go with the flow.. It certainly isnt bothering her hahah. XXXX

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
I would'nt be worrid at all my son did this they the doc's classed him as a big bubba I thought he was average but when it came to this stage although he'd always been ahead his legs just were'nt stronge enough to take his weight, I spent alot of time trying to encourage him and before i'd had time to worry he was standing also getting them on the floor will help mac puched with his feet so i think this strenghtend his legs, walkers and boucers will help too good luck Jo xxx

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
Just keep trying to get her to stand. Practice it a lot during the day with her, she will get the hang of it. Since she is laughing, there probably isn't anything wrong with her legs. I wouldn't worry, some babies hit milestones quickly or a little slower. Mine has hit some quick and others she is still yet to do.

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
hey darl she sounds like she i sjust having a bit of fun with you she probably thinks its just a fun game, one day you will come out and she will be standing up holding the coffee table or you will walk in to her room and she'll be up in the cot!  my next door neighbours kids didnt stand till 11 months and didnt walk until 18 months all 3 of them!! dont worry she will do things in her own time!!

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
I think she's playing with you hehehe.  Laughing at you like that.  I would give her a little more time and maybe talk more with the paediatrician about it.  We have 2 babies at work, one is 6 months, one is 5.5 months.  2 weeks difference but so many other differences! The 6 month old is crawling and pulling herself up on things and standing holding hands.  The other baby just doesn't want to do anything.  She tries to sit up but won't roll over or anything! I think babies just do things when they're ready and she sounds like a happy little vegemite to me.  If you are concerned, as you seem to be, keep talking to the paediatrician about it.

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
Gosh she is only 5 months old, I wouldn't be worried about it yet.  Don't worry too much about comparing her with other babies, in a year, she could be running rings around them.  She probably sees no point in standing up and thinks it is just a game.  Enjoy her the way she is and she will reach all of those milestones that we expect in her own time.

Re: My baby doesnt want to stand..
Thats what i thought too, only 5months and just 5months. Even at 4months the Dr was saying to me 'why isnt this baby standing?' and i said she is only 4mths old! The she told me i should be encouraging her to stand.. i always thought the best thing was to let them do things at their own pace.. Thanks x
