Re: Induction
Hi!  Firstly, don't stress - it will only make everything worse - relax & know that this baby will come when it is ready.  The drs will keep an eye on you& you have a full say in how everything goes (though baby will run the show!)

I was induced with both of mine - quite differently and with different results.

My first was because of pre-eclampsia and was early.  I was not ready for birth.  They inserted a gel one night and then again in teh morning.  Contractions started pretty much straight away after the second insertion.  However he didn't cope with the contractions and we had an emergency caesar.  He had the cord around him so couldn't get enough oxygen.

My second - my waters had already broken, I had been in labour 24 hours but it was not progressing.  So, they did a drip but on a low setting.  It made the contractions regular and I still laboured for another ten hours.  It was not too difficult to deal with, but I did have pethidine which I hadn't planned on, as I was not allowed off the bed (because of the previous caesar not the induction).

My understanding is that it is better to avoid an induction as there is more likelihood of medical intervention after one.  However if your blood pressure is concerning your dr you need to consider your health and the baby's over possible interventions.  I don't regret either of mine - yes the first one resulted in a caesar, but that caesar saved his life.  In the 2nd the induction gave me a chance at a natural birth as the only other option was a caesar.

Re: Induction
hi, I wasn't induced but I just had a thought.  Have you or your doctor talked about any natural ways of getting labor started?  Inducing is great when needed but it can be stronger and can leave you in bed which isn't always very comfy.  there are lots of things you could try like certain teas, having sex, nipple stimulation... there are other ideas too which may cause you to spontaneously begin labor.  Either way, i hope you have a great experience and that everyone is safe and healthy.  It will be fine.

Re: Induction
HI there, I was induced with my daughter a few days befoer her due date due to my heart condition. The docs put this tape thingy (not sure what it was called) up there and it had to be kept in for 12 hours. So that happened on Wed nnight, then Thurs morning they broke my waters at 9am. Unlike most inductions that are supposed to make labours quicker mine lasted all day and I didn't have her until nearly 9pm. It did make the labour seem more painful than my first but in saying that I didn't have any pain medication at any time. As far as I have heard when you get induced the contractions are more painful but you get a quicker labour. Good luck and just remember whatever happens you get a beautiful baby at the end of it so all the pain is very worthwhile.

Re: Induction

I was induced with my second baby as i had bad swelling in my feet. They inserted tablets at the base of the cervix (similar to the gel) at 9pm. Midnight contractions started although not strong, the Dr broke my water to move things along. Although the labour was only 4hours it was hard as she fought very hard to stay in there. I wouldnt choose an induction, its alot harder to force the baby out, than to give birth when they are ready. My first baby was natural and came in 4.45mins.. only 45mins longer than my induction but it was a smoother delivery.. Saying that, all cases are different but personally if i had the choice i wouldnt induce again. All the best and i hope its quick! Would love to know how you get on..

Take Care Mandy

Re: Induction
I had to be induced with my son.  I was in labour and like 3 cm dilated and they wanted to speed up the process.  They broke my water hoping to bring on labour.   Although, my contractions started to slow and weaken after they broke my water. They put me on pitocin at pm and the contractions started heavy and hard by 11:30pm.  I got an epidural and didn't have my son until 6:54am.  With the help of a suction cup cause he fought me to stay in! Anyways, hope my story helps you in some way! Good luck!

Re: Induction
I was induced for being 10 days past date.  They started with the gel at 11am, it didn't do much, then around 1pm bub's heartbeat started bottoming out, alarms would go off and by the time the midwife got back in the room, it would be back up to normal (turned out that she was holding the cord, little rabbit was still holding it when she was born!).  But I still wasn't getting any major contractions.  They broke my waters at around 1:45pm and she was out in the world at 2:25pm!! Fast and furious!!

You'll do great, good luck and congrats!!!

Re: Induction
I was induced with i think from memory 6 of my 10!! lol they inserted the gel with my 15yr old way back then lol. I still remember as if was yesterday. The gel softens(ripens) in medical terms the cervix ready for them to usually break your waters. Once this happened with my induction they left me for about 2 hours to see if labour would start on its own which it never did! They then decided to place the drip in with syntocin which is the artificial form of the body starting labour itself! Once the drip was in they turned it up gradually until labour had started and was getting progress then they just waited. I think from memory from the time they broke my waters to the time they placed the drip in and l;abour started was all over in about 5hrs and 20mins(i think)! Induction is alot faster  and sometimes the pain is more intense as the body itself is some times not ready and neither is bub! But it differs from person to person no two or even 10 labours are the same. Pian wise that is! If they offer you gas, pethadine epidural take whatever you want or don't want. Remember it is your body and your baby no one elses. Good luck anhd let us all know how it goes and warm wishes to being a mummy very soon! It is frightning but ask nurses and dr's all the questions you like they are there to answer and help you also for support during labour lap up the luxury of being waited on hand and foot while you can ;lol lol lolo
GOOD LUCK AND BEST OF WISHES HUGS FROM US ALL I AM SURE!

Re: Induction

a sweep was done on me ,, then they induced me with the meds in a drip ,first it wasnt strong ( it brings on the contractions) ,, my waters still didnt break so after an hour they let more meds come through the drip making the contractions stronger and faster ,,and they had to break my waters also

for me from start to finish with bub in my arms was 5 hours and 20 min real fast . the pain was  intence cause its strong and it wasnt a build up  i doubt anyone can get away with no pain unless they had other meds also ,,, .....after the first hour it just came on real quick .I wasnt as tied as i was with my first birth ,, i say cause it was over and done with ,, no horror stories from me with being induced ,,,, i will say though

bub was a little stressed  at first but everything went great  we where both monitered ..... my doctor also asked me if i wanted to pull my own son out after his head and shoulders came though ,,,, all the best and just ask questions to the doctors and nurses there .....

Re: Induction
I was induced with both of my babies..... My son due to blood pressure 3 weeks early..... they put the gel in at 6 pm and then 11pm....... and i was taken down to delivery at 1130pm..... they popped the watres which was slightly uncomfortable at about 200am

but I didnt feel any pain at all...they had the drip in which annoyed me cause i couldnt move like i planned and i managed with no drugs......I felt a whole hour of pain and had my son at 304 pm...... He was vaccumed due to fetal distress.......and it was quite a good labor

My daughter was also a induction,...due to diabetes and again i had the gel this time at 11pm...was down in the delivery at 1230am...waters popped at 300am and gave birth at 1027... she was a lot bigger and so i did rely on the gas for her for the last 2 hours (where i was uncomfortable).......

well not sure this will be a great help..... but i had no probs with either birth being induced and would do it all again if i had too

hugs and good luck

Re: Induction
I was inducted with Charlotte. My waters broke due to a storm (joys of living at the bottom of a hill) and was no way ready to have her.  i had a drip put in at 9am with the inducing med in it (sorry was 3 years ago i cant remember what it was called) i will suggest that you walk as much as you can, it helps get the blood moving and the bubba on its decent down. it took 6 hours for me to go from 3cm (hubby said he thinks) dialated to pushing bub out it took this long cause i didnt walk. but i also have quick labours. from the first birth to my second i will say pain was about the same. And apart from the complications from a stupid midwife pulling on the placenta too quick it was a fine and normal birth.

All i can sugest is do as your told. lol. and take care.
good luck with the birth sweety.

Re: Induction
I'm not much help - I was going to be, I was in hospital and was in some program where they did a 50/50 chance of being induced as my water broke early - however I was selected not to be induced.  Jaydee ended up coming out within 24 hours anyway, he already had his mind made up.

All I can say is best of luck with it, you are going to be doing what they believe is best for both you and bubs, and be excited - in a very short time, YOU will be a MUMMY!  Woohoo!
