Help!! - Games at bedtime!
My son James (who was 1 yesterday) has always been a wonderful sleeper, as soon as he is put in his crib at night or for a nap he goes straight to sleep. However, for the last 4 or 5 days he has realised he can stand up and walk around his crib holding onto the sides. During the day this is not too bad as he is just covered loosely with blankets, at night time he is in a sleepbag and this is when I am more concerned as I worry that he may stumble in the dark especially being in a sleep bag.
At first I would go to James' room, pick him up, cuddle him and lay him back down again saying it's time for sleep. I quickly realised that each time he got up he was being rewarded for it and it became a game to him. My husband and I decided to remove all communication with him when he refuses to sleep, we simply lay him down, no eye contact and no talking to him. For one day it stopped and he was back to his old sleeping patterns, however, it has started again. I am reluctant to remove the sleepbag as he kicks the covers off and it is so hot here we need the cooler on at all times.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so I would be grateful for any help or ideas.
