How much for an almost 8 week old

I am keeping an almost 8 week old little baby, and she eats, a lot. I don't know how much mine ate b/c I breastfeed for the first 2 1/2 months. But she eats a 4 1/2 ounce bottle, and could still eat more! Her mom told me that the doctor says this is too much at one time. But she is happy, healthy, and sleeps GREAT.

Re: How much for an almost 8 week old

There is a guide on the back of the formula tin as to how much babies of different ages take per feed and how many feeds per day.

Our doctor told us that the first couple of yrs (especially the first) is where a baby's body learns to deal with food.  It can determine weather or not the child will be obese or not.  I think that meant that if you over feed it now, it will always need alot of food??

I would check the tin, check her weight gain and if she was too far out I would maybe cut her down abit?  You could always give her a dummy instead, she could just be sucky?

Re: How much for an almost 8 week old
By 8 weeks my son was eating every three hours and was taking 6-8 oz a feed!! I never worried that this was too much as he was sleeping through the night and I saw it as him making up for the night feeds in the day. I say if she is hungry, feed her... although I must say I did give my son a few sips of water at this age too as I figured he was also thirsty not just hungry (it was summer). You may want to speak to her Mom about introducing this.

Re: How much for an almost 8 week old
That's right, mine was on the boob every hour or 2 through the day and I was told this was way too much but she slept 12 hours overnight so I figured the same as you did that she must have just been making up for it.  She only had 12 hours to fit in what other babies take over 24 hours so of course she would be taking more.  If babies are healthy, active, weeing and pooing as normal, bright and happy then you are doing right.  If he doesn't finish a feed I wouldn't force it, but just take note of what he's leaving if you can.  If he's unsettled and has a feed and becomes settled, then a feed is what he needed.

Re: How much for an almost 8 week old
If she is happy and healthy, then I'd say don't worry about it! We were continually told that Rylan was feeding too much (then too little)... until I found one early childhood nurse who told me to just do what works for me. If feeding him up made him happy and he was still healthy, then there's no problem!   Hope this helps!
