Antenatal Classes

Are there any good DVD's or Books that teachesyou most of what antenatal classes do?

My husband and I live 1hrs drive away from the hospital and will be unable to attend the classes as they are only run in the evenings at a time that is to early for my husband to attend due to his work and the other classes are offered during work hours.

I wouldn't mind attending the classes but as this is our first child I would like for us to have this experience together. If books and/or DVD's are an option then we would definitely be interested in making a purchase.

Re: Antenatal Classes

you could ask your local labour ward or midwives if they have a library which offers birthing resources to women who will be birthing at the hospital. i borrowed lots of different videos from my midwives here in adelaide. births included natural without the use of pain relief, water births and emergency situations where ventouse or forceps where used.

Re: Antenatal Classes
I never even went to those classes and since with my first labour I came into the hospital at 2am or some ridiculous hour the night nurse was fantastic with keeping me calm and helping me to breathe. What more do you need to know? Since I never went maybe I should not comment except just want you to know that it is all about keeping from tensing when you are in pain having a contraction and I got through it fine, even without the classes and if hubby is there with nice warm flannel on your face, rubbing back etc. Good luck and hope all goes well.

Re: Antenatal Classes

Our hospital offered a weekend class, fairly long days, but it was a saturday and sunday and they taught what they did each night.  You can probably meet with one of the midwives and ask them what  you need to know, some of the antinatal classes are irrelevant, teaching about car restraints etc.  i know that I am not really aswering your question, but I hope it helps.
