Re: to early to stand?

don't encourage him to do this too much as baby's bones are very soft when they are that young and his weight could bow his legs.

check everything out with your health visitor or dr to get further advise, this is very unusual!

sound to me like you're going to have a very active little man, good luck!

Re: to early to stand?
Mine was doing that.  I was told that if they stand too early like this, their muscles might be ready and their brain might be wanting it, but their bones can be damaged from it.  The paediatrician I spoke to said damage to bones won't become evident until they are around 5 or so but advised me to give my daughter lots of tummy time and alternate using the Jolly Jumper, the Walker (like them or not, that was his advice) and just holding her in an upright position taking the weight off her but still letting her think she's stainding up by herself.  She was walking at 8.5 months.

Re: to early to stand?
Both my boys were like this. I have always been told it can damage their legs so I only let them do it for very short periods.

Re: to early to stand?
Hi i would not worry about it my little girl was like that too, she was so desperate to walk and was walking properly by 10 months. You  might find that he is going to be a very active child. Hope this helps

Re: to early to stand?
My son also did this. He is now one and was walking at nine moths. It won't do any damage in small shart doses. It just means that he is likely to be an early crawler/walker. I asked my doctor if this could have any long term effects and he said no. If you are really concerned a CHN would be more than happy to discuss this with you.

Re: to early to stand?
My son is now 4 and 1/2 months but he could also stand at that age.  All I did was made sure not to let him very often and for very short amounts of time.  I think that their legs and ankles are nowhere near ready to support their own weight even if they seem to. Just wait, wont be long and it will be ok to let him support himself.

Re: to early to stand?
I agree with you my son and my sisters 2 boys were the same my nephew started walking when he was 7m and now he has out of shape legs it is nothing major and it doesnt cause any problems but it was just early for him to start walking. As for 2 1/2 m I think is way to early but you cant stop him doing it just dont let him stand too long as you never know what that weight is doing to his little body.

Re: to early to stand?

what do you mean he has out of shape legs?

My son is 4 1/2 months old and he has been able to hold his own body up with his legs with us only holding him for balance. I am assuming this means he will walk early.

It will be a change as no1 did not walk until he was 21 months

Re: to early to stand?
ok what I mean is his kneecups are sort of off centre and his lower legs have a ( ) shape. It is very obvius and they were told by many doctors that it was due to his early walking.

Re: to early to stand?
That's what I was told would happen, the legs would be bowed and there would be complications down the track with things such as arthritis and so on.  I was told it would take its full affect by the age of 5 so I never let her do it.  You really can't stop them but you can take the weight off their legs and use other devices so they can be as active as they like and still not do the damage.  I have a very active child, she's nearly 4 and spends lots of time outdoors on her bike, trampoline, going for walks, swimming at the pool, constantly on the move.
