Warming up the milk.

Okay, now i am not quite sure, if i did the right thing or not, so i just need some advice as usual, i always i come here for some parenting advice from all the Mom`s out there. Thnx to whoever is gonna answer.
We went to a park as we`d been invited for a BBQ yesterday.  So as usual, whenever i go out i always put the baby bottles in a small cooler bag , so that the milk wont go bad.  So now after we reached the park after let`s say hour and 15 min, it was my baby`s feeding time, so what i normally do is put the bottle under the sink with hot water running over it, so that it gets to a room temp as my daughter is very fussy, no matter how hungry she will be yet she wont have the cold milk as she is used to eversince the day she was born. But unfotunately to my surprise,  there was no hot water in the bathroom sink.  So i kinda panicked and didn` t know what to do, as i am too shy 2 brstfeed in public, especially, when it comes to do in front of people whom i know.  Okay,  so i put the bottle under the hand dryer for like 5 min and i was good to go.  So, just to make the long story short-----i have a question, that Did i do something wrong, coz i`ve never heard about this ever b4 nor have i seen anybody do this b4, so i just wanted to ask u guys that whatever i did , is it right or not, it`s kinda embarrassing to do even this kind of stuff in public place, i found it funny and even some Mom`s said, Cool, atleast u figured out some way to get ur baby drink her milk.  Now it makes me go and buy a bottle warmer which i didn`t think about it b4 today, now i think i might need it.  Plse advice. thnx.

Re: Warming up the milk.
Whatever works my friend, whatever works. When mine was hungry I had the same problem. Sometimes I would just put water in the bottles, and let them sit in the sun in the heat. Then add the formula. LOL. I didn't like to breastfeed in public either. Sometimes I would just go to the end of the parking lot and feed mine.

Re: Warming up the milk.
Thnx to all who answered my Q?.  Just to let  Mom`s know who asked me if it was btle or brsrmilk, it was brstmilk..  I just bought this brstfeeding cover couple weeks ago from Walmart , but as i said i am 2 shy to brstfeed her in frnt of people whom i know, otherwise i dnt mind feeding her at a place where i am comfortable in between strangers.  I was thinking that if this hand dryer thing didn`t work, i was thinking of going and feeding her in the car. Even my husband keeps pushing me , yeah, go ahead and latch her, but for some reason i dnt feel comfortable.  Thnx for the gr8 advice and again thnx 4 ur time.

Re: Warming up the milk.

It sounds like a good idea with the hand dryer. I does the same thing as the warm water, makes the surrounding of the bottle warm and this heat transfers into the milk.

I'm not sure if the bottle was breast milk or formula, but if you use formula the following might help. If you wanted to avoid buying a bottle warmer, I have heard of people taking the formula powder not made up (in a snap lock bag or just dry in the bottle) and then take a thermos of hot water (pre boiled like always). Then you can just make it up. This also works if you're going to be out for longer than you want a made up bottle.

I've also heard of people doing this for night feeds so they don't have to wait for a bottle to heat up. Just leave the bottle with formula dry powder in it, nipple, lid etc and a thermos of warm water in the bedroom. Just add and shake for the night feed (s), then you don't need to wait for the bottle to heat.

Good thinking! And I hope this saves you money.

Re: Warming up the milk.

Do not feel embarassed about breastfeeding in public, when I breastfed my boys in public I would make an effort to take along a small blanket or bunny rug to place over bubs head so the breast was not visible as I am not comfortable with exposing myself to public.

Everyone will still know what you are doing but it is discrete

Re: Warming up the milk.

Was it formula or breastmilk? Breastmilk I do not think it is a problem, but formula it could be as it needs to be used within one hour of mixing it.

My son was the same, only would take milk at room temp not one degree warmer or cooler. I used to take bottles of measured water and leave them in a bag and take pre-measured powder and mix it just before I needed to use it. I have a bag which has a warming pack which I always kept in the diaper bag just in case of emergencies. You just click a metal disk 20 mins before you need it and it starts to heat up it is so cool!

Do not be shy about breastfeeding, be proud of it! If anyone has a problem with it tough!! It is the most natural thing in the world. ;o)

Good on you - great thinking! I don't think you have done anything wrong, you used what you had to get your child to feed. A bottle warmer would be a great idea. I personally just flop the boob out wherever I am! lol! I'm not shy at all - but I have friends that are & they just find somewhere discrete to feed.

I thought that was a great idea that you did. You're just thinking about getting your child's bottle warm, and the hand dryer was the only thing to warm it up with, so that was the right thing to do. Only looking out for your child's interests. Good on you for doing that.

Re: Warming up the milk.

You are very clever ,I am sure it would have been fine ,you are a true mummy solving a problem like that. But as others have suggested a bottle warmer is a great idea for when going out in public.

Re: Warming up the milk.

Wow........very creative!!!  Bottle warmers are great but I don't see anything wrong with what you did at all, you heated it up and it's definately no different to using hot water.

Re: Warming up the milk.
Wow, I never would have thought of that either.  Have you seen those breastfeeding tops that make it more descreet to breastfeed around other people? Just a thought as it would make life so much easier if you could feed the baby straight from the source.  Well, if it worked and she didn't become ill from it maybe it wasn't a bad thing to do.  Just very creative LOL.

Re: Warming up the milk.

you could either get a bottle warmer or simply take the milk already made up and made a bit hotter (so it has cooled by the time it needs to be used).  Although if it is breastmilk you could take a thermos of hot water with you and a container to put it into to warm up the milk that way and then you are fully portable again.

I don't think that youwould have done anything wrong by heating the milk the way you did.  It obviously worked and has had no ill effects.  I know that I wouldn't have thought of doing it.

Re: Warming up the milk.

If you are using formula and you make it up before you go out it needs to be used with in the hour other wise there is the possiblity of bacteria growing.
