Mine will be 6 mths next week and i am breastfeeding, she seems to be content with whatever she has, so we r going to go easy and slow on solids. So next week she has her appt ans as oyr Dr said to wa8 until 6 mths, after her appt , we will encourage her. for solids. So take it easy do not rush. As the rest of the Moms said that u will know when your bub is ready.
I started my son on solides at 4 months I had to i was brest feeding and giving him bottles as well and it wasn't enough my son hated the farax he used to make faces and spit it out so i stoped thinking he wasn't ready but he screamed so what i did was soak weetbix in milk then put them through the blenda he loved it.
You just make sure you do it when your ready I listend to other ppl going no no no he doesn't need it till 6 months and when he turned 4 monthes he had lost weight and he was having 4 formala bottles and as much breast as he wanted and to this day i still feel gultiy about it
My oldest hated farax too - would spit it staight back at me! lol! My bub however eats it, prefers fruit mixed with it but will eat it by itself. Funny how different kids can be!
I agree with what you have written. Other mothers of perfect children with tell you no no no all the time and give you horrid looks but they dont know what its like to have a child who is so hungry all the time.
I also started on wheetbix because mine hated farax. I would crush it up with my hand when it was dry, then pour boiling water over it till it was soggy, then add formula or breast milk to it till it was cool and runny. yummo!
They say to wait until 4-6 months, we started at 5 months. The way to know is if your baby is eating 35-40 ounces and still seems hungry you should probably start. I wouldn't start at 4 months unless he is drinking a lot. We tried to start at 4 months and it didn't work well.
Every baby is defferent. There are signs to look for. With one of mine it was very early at 2 months. He stopped sleeping and was constantly hungry and I was at wits ends and my mum said to feed him and it worked! Yet the others were after 5 months. Depends on when he is hungry!
They say not before 6 months - but...... both my boys started at around 5 months. You can tell when they are ready - they will be really interested in your food, and even get cranky while you are eating! lol! my bub was getting cranky & chewing while we ate so we started him, this is also what his big brother did. Use your instincts but don't rush it. Godd luck
people arent gonna like what i say lol!
Although the recommended age to start solids is 6 months of age, alot of babies will start to show interest at a much younger age - breastfed and non breastfed! When my daughter was 7 weeks of age she needed to have solids! Nothing i could give her would satisfy her! Not only that, she was also showing interest in solid food!
I think you need to do what you feel is right for your baby - regardless of what health organisations say!
I would start off on farex first though - cheers!
WHO (World Health Organisation) doesn't recommend solids til 6 months of age. Exclusive breastmilk is best up to 6 months. The lining of the babies stomach hasn't developed properly until 6 months and cannot tolerate solid food. I wouldn't rush, take your time.
6 months is usually the norm, my first son did not fall into the norm he was on solids by nearly 3 months, my other two were the same but not as young more like 4 months.... If he is content with his milk and putting on weight then there is not a real reason to start him early, plus they normal spit half of it up any way lol x
At the moment in this area of the world, the general rule of thumb is at 6mths... Especially if your baby is breast fed, as that is meant to be enough to provide all of their nutritional needs until then.
If you feel your baby is interested in food at an earlier age, seek medical / professional advice. We started Jay on baby rice at 5 months, as we were waiting at the airport to get on a plane and he saw a man eating chips and suddenly became really interested in food.
