It is usually just a stage they go through. My youngest at 5 still occassionally shoves a toy up his nose. Is she teething or have a middle ear infection. Sometimes the ears can be hurting and they want to stuff something there to stop the pain. Just a thought.Leisa

Re: SHE IS PUTTING EVERYTHING IN HER EARS!!
Oh this brings back memories of my nephew! I was looking after the 3 kids and while talking to the teenager who was having a spac attack, the younger girl called out that her brother had something stuck in his nose.  He had a marble stuck in each nostril and could only breathe through his mouth.  I couldn't get it out, nothing any of us did dislodged it so I rang his mother and she said to take him to the hospital.  They had to use these forceps looking things to get it out and his nose required stitches from it.  It didn't stop him though, he had a popcorn kernal stuck in his ear a few weeks later that required medical attention once again! I think it's a stage kids get through and yes distraction is probably the best way, however if you yourself are distracted by other kids they can stick things in different places on their bodies.  I haven't come across this with mine, touch wood, however I know so many babies who have done this, and even children up to the age of 5 and it can be a worry and it can be a pain but you look back on it a decade later and find yourself in fits of laughter remembering this.

Hi there,

My 14 month old daughter is doing the exact same thing and we are using distraction as a technique to try and stop this behaviour and so far it seems to be working . . . .

Every time she is trying to put something in her ears we are r making a loud noise to distract her. I friend of mine also went through this and she used to grab her daughters arms and say no and she found that this didn't work as her daughter began to think of it as a game.

Good luck . . . Cheers Kellz
