Question about Site

I just read some advice and am wondering why "Advice did not work for me" warrants 1 star and "Neutral" is 3 stars.  The advice did not work for me but I feel that giving it a "very poor" rating (1 star) was very harsh so I voted it Neutral (3 stars) and I'm remembering other times that people have voted 1 star for "Advice did not work for me" and couldn't help but feel it is the same as "Neutral" just wondering if anyone else feels the same about this? I really wanted to vote that it did not work for me but as I said the advice still deserved more than 1 star

Re: Question about Site
The lowest rating I would generally give is the neutral doesn't work for me, however if I read something that i knew was either dangerous or not healthy etc I would give it a lower rating but then it is only fair to leave a comment justifying why you would rate it low

Re: Question about Site
That's what I do as well.  I just know there was some conflict with a couple of members (i talk to both on msn) because one rated the other's advice as "Advice did not work for me" and the other only took that as being "You gave me a very poor rating" and it was a good article, just not what the other person would have found helpful.  I think that it should say different.  I agree with you though I only give from 3 to 5 stars unless it's dangerous advice, or downright attacking other people.

Re: Question about Site
I think saying that something does not work for me is better then saying poor advice.  It is less harmful as someone may have put their heart and sole into it regardless of how it comes out.   By saying it does not work for me says to me that it may not work for them but it may work for someone else... As apposed to my advice was bad, and possibly giving that person the impression that they should not try again..
Just a thought.. :)

Re: Question about Site

I remember when the owners were developing this site and they were considering just giving adivce a thumbs up/thumbs down, but it was mutually agreed that that could be too harsh and would possibly offend some members, which is why they chose to give 1-5 stars instead as it isnt quite as harsh.

Hope this helps :)

Re: Question about Site
I understand the 5 stars but feel that 1 star is for poor advice, but it states on there that 1 star is for "Advice did not work for me" and to me I feel if the advice didn't work for me I'll give it a 3 yet I know there have been a couple of times that people have given 1 star simply because it says "Advice did not work for me" and not because it was a poor article.

Re: Question about Site
Okay, I have taken a look, and understand what you mean. I will have a further think about how to have the stars represented more. What do you think we would place next to the one star?

Re: Question about Site
That's a good question.  I feel that perhaps the 1 star could simply be "Poor advice" as that's the advice I rate as 1 star, the advice that was poorly written or did not have enough information, etc.

Re: Question about Site

i personally wont give it a poor rateing , why cause just cause it dosent work for me it dosent mean that it cant for many others , i dont feel that for me i can do that ,, but thats just me , sometimes if it dosent work the first time it might later on down the track , and if the articles not anything i can see thats for me i dont bother at all .

as i feel that they have put in the time and effort to write it in the first place ...thats why i dont give it a poor rating and im not talking about articles that just shoudnt be on minti in the first place ,, thats up to admin

Re: Question about Site
Hmm... that's an interesting one to ponder.  I must confess I haven't used the words as a guide for how to vote.  I've just sort of gone from 5 star - great article to 1 star - poor article.  I wonder what criteria other people are using when they vote?

Re: Question about Site
Just thinking about this some more, I realise I define "great advice" or "poor advice" not based purely on the advice given, but I am more voting on what I consider the quality of the article.  I must admit, there is very little I vote poor.  I think someone would have to be advocating child pornography or be an article that was so poorly written I couldn't make sense of it for me to vote it poor.

Re: Question about Site
I have read on an article that a member wrote "I have voted This advice did not work for me because I did things differently" and that got me thinking then, but it wasn't until now when the advice didn't work for me at all that I really thought that I can't vote to say it didn't work for me because I feel it deserves 3 stars.  It's only on advice that this is written.  I think that a 1 star is that it's really poor advice like it's written poorly or is downright nasty or something along those lines, not just if it isn't what you did with your own children.
