I have to wheen my baby now and I need some help

Here is the thing my baby is now 15 months and he was still nursing at night and before nap. Other than that I can get him to take a bottle. I came down with a UTI and Kidney infection.  The medication I have to take there is no way to nurse. Last 2 nights were horrible he just screamed all night long.

I just need some advice on how to make it less painful for me (while I am drying up) and help for him to transition.  I have nursed  3 babies before him, but this time with having to all of the sudden cut off is so much more stressful.

Thanks
Katie

Cold and flu tablets like codral will dry you up very quickly and you are unlikely to get bloated and painful  breasts, My sister inlaw did it and recommended it to me and I dried up within a few days but the reason I wanted to stop was becasue I wasn't making enough in the first place, so maybe it would take about a week.

Does he understand the meaning of the word "broken"? This is how I stopped my son! He went to feed one morning and I said, "Sorry mate, Broken" he knew what it meant as his toys would often end up broken and therefore no longer usable. He had a bit of a puzzled look on his face but accepted what I had said. He tried again a couple of hours later so I said the same thing and gave him a drink from a cup. He never asked again!!!!!!!! He was a bit older thought about 3 weeks from being 2yrs.
Give it a go. You never know it may work for you too.
Good luck.

hey darl i had to do the same with my 14 month old because my son had to have an op and i couldnt take her, i just told my daughter everytime she asked that it was yucky and she thought that was pretty funny, they can smell you so i would lather up on the perfume around your breasts..

It would be great if someone else could help you out during the times that he would normally nurse.

Good luck and i hope it gets a little less stressful for you, just reassure him that mummy loves him.

As for making it more comfortable for you:
Try expressing for comfort, but not so much that your body thinks it's feeding a baby.  Try expressing in the shower morning and evening.  Express a little less each day but only so that you are not feeling so full.

For baby:
Still have lots and lots of cuddle time.  Have extra cuddle time at the times you would be giving a breastfeed, as well as other times just to make up for it.  I wouldn't recommend a bottle at that age though.  Try different types of cups.

I've never actually weaned a baby, but I know she gave it up before I was ready to and I was devastated so I'm imagining it would be similar for a baby so that's why lots of extra cuddles are the way to go.  I didn't even get extra cuddles, so it was from the opposite side :( and I can only imagine how you must feel right now too.  Good luck with it and I really hope things improve.

Re: I have to wheen my baby now and I need some help
Always wear a bra, I did sports bra b/c the wire in the regular bras hurt too much, pump when you need to. I had to pump in the middle of the night once b/c mine were hard as rocks and I couldn't roll over. Is there a way for someone else to put him to bed for you or give him formula? The problem is that he can smell your milk, if you have a neighbor or relatve that could help you out for a few days, that would be best. If it isn't you trying to settle him it may work better. Good luck.
