Help

My baby has been a good sleeper for months. I do controlled crying, and she usually doesn't even cry, or if she does it is for only 2-3 minutes. Although lately she cries a lot before naps (like 45 minutes). Nothing has changed, diet, the bed, naptime, nothing. Today she only cried for 10 minutes and was so upset she started coughing and choking. What can I do?

Re: Help
Didn't i give you a routine? I think she is just getting used to it.

Re: Help
It could be the start of seperation anxiety too. Does she have signs of this when she is wide awake? Or just going to sleep?

Re: Help
Hi there, its possible that shes teething rub a little Bonjella on her gums... it may be that she needs some baby Panadol depending on which tooth is cutting or if she's very distressed by it. Perservere as they usually return to their routine, mine always did. If you have checked everything then crying wont hurt especially if she is already in an established pattern, if you feel that its been going on for to long recheck everything and start again.

Re: Help
I just read that she wasnt teething just testing the waters, that's normal also so recheck, no fussing about and leave otherwise she will see her crying as a game and continue.

Re: Help
hi darl, my daughter does this every now and then and she is a self settler!!
if she is calming as soon as you tend to her she is probably just testing the boundaries of what she can get away with, with us it lasts maybe 3 days and then she realises that nothing has changed..
maybe she could go down a little bit later that way you know that she is tired..

good luck im sure its just a phase and it will pass.

Re: Help
It's not recommended to leave them any more than 20 minutes.  Personally I never left mine, but all the people (like nurses, etc) who tried to convince me to let her "self settle" all said to never leave her for more than 20 minutes to cry.  If it goes on for 20 minutes, get her up and try again in half an hour.  It all seemed pointless to me, she was sleeping through so why should I have to put her to bed awake? So my advice would be, as I was told, get her up after 20 minutes and try again a little later.

Re: Help
Is she teething? The only time my son cried around nap time was when he was teething and when he was trying to tell me he didn't need to nap. I was still giving him three naps a day and he would cry for the mid morning one so I stopped laying him down and he showed me he didn't need it anymore.  I am not sure how old she is, but I have found and heard from friends that sleep patterns change around the first birthday.   Good luck!

Re: Help
She isn't teething. She is fine until I leave the room, as soon as I pick her up she stops crying, or if I just pat or kiss her she stops crying. She is 8 months old, sorry I forgot to tell you :)
