it this normal or not.... (more info)

i have been thinking of asking this for days and if i should or not .... so here goes

i am wondering if anyone else's child does this,  when charlie is really excited or cranky he will sit there and hit or smack his head and will keep doing it until someone stops him,  please i have tried everything, i have asked the doctors about it and they just keep telling me that its just a phase but I'm not so sure...

we do ignore it but we have to stop him when is head goes read from doing it so much, its as though he can't stop himself from doing it, he even does it when no one is with him or looking,  we've never laughed at it or made it into a game, when he first did it i was shocked at it and stoped him from doing it and now when he does it i try to tell him that it isn't a good thing and that he will really hurt himself....

its not so much an attention thing when he wants that he just keeps saying mum mum mum or dad until we answer him, like that lollie pop add that was going around a few years ago.

please help i don't know how to stop it or is it something else??

You could have him evaluated by a child psychologist if it doesnt end.  They can do tests that will either put your mind at ease or alow him to get any help he needs.  Keep smiling, and know that we all have children that do unexplained things!!

Hi
My elder brother did this and used to jump of things and land on his head....funnily enough their heads are pretty tough
Spose they have to be
He grew up as normal as any brother could.....ok he was a pain lol
All my kids have gone through this stage
Rowan has aspergers and he did it
Megan is "normal" and she did it
Jalan is Cystic Fibrosis and she did it
So you can see it makes no difference
My friends sons mate will often hit himself in the head and he is a teenager.....
So unless he is showing other weird signs like lack of cognitive development or something jsut listen to everyone and relax
They don't usually hurt themselves too bad....
Wish they had a pointy head so that at least i could get some nails hammered in
Luv Deb

It is a phase he is going through. If you ask most mums and dads there kids have done it. Most doctors will tell you that he is seeking attention but i find that they do it because they are getting fustrated even within himself and nothing has to trigger it off. he might be trying to do something and you wouldnt notice and he cant achive what he is trying to do so the starts to hit himself. I have 6 kids and out of the six 4 of them did it.

Hope this helps you in some way

Shar

I totally agree 100% with you! My youngest daughter does this on a regular basis and thats bec she is getting fustrated within herself. She has good and bad days but its  becoming worse when she cant do something now she will throw herself on the floor and smash her head now lol.  I do agree with on this.
