Back to school (for mommy)

This isn't esactly a parenting question, sorry. I'm thinking about going back to school, but I don't want to put my baby in daycare, and I have no one to keep her during the day. So I was wondering if anyone had completed college online and what your experiences were? There are just so many schools out there it is hard to choose. Thanks in advance!

Online college is a great way to continue your educational goals while still being a Mommy. I loved the flexibility of this. I never felt guilty about leaving my little one cause I didn't have to . And it helped me to feel good about myself too. There are so many online choices out there today. it is such a common and popular way to study , even if you don't have kids. I haven't personalley done it yet! But I know alot of my friends that are moms do it and LOVE it! They say it's so much easier that way your spending time with your kid at home and saveing money! Then you can go do classes when your child's takeing a nap, or whatever! I think online classes is a great idea! Good luck with it!

Re: Back to school (for mommy)
These days Universities offer bridging courses for getting into degree courses.  These can be done via correspondence and usually are of low cost or even free.

Here in Oz I am completeing  (trying to) a course called WIST-  Women In Science and Technology and this will hopefully get me into Uni to do my degree.  I am doing it from home and it is great, when I do get the time.

All the best.  The world is a very different place now and parents are more easily catered for these days.

Good luck.

I was looking into doing a PhD online too, however, the cost ($45,000!!!) put me off!  I have a friend who obtained her batchelors degree via University of Phoenix they are very good, (but costly!) It really depends what you decide to study as to the best college for it.

Re: Back to school (for mommy)
Hi there,

I studied via correspondence and I HIGHLY recommend it . .  I was able to work at my own pace and at times that worked for me. I look back now and can't believe it took me so long to take the plunge.

The ironic part was that I finished my course 4 months early and also came in the top 5% of my state with my grades . . I was totally shocked and extremely happy . ..

GIVE IT GO . . .
Cheers Kellz

Correspodence study is just like home school.  You work at your own pace and send it in to them to mark.

No transport hassles, or parking and you can watch your kids at the same time.  Also, children who grow up with parents who are studying are more likely to take to school better and enjoy it more.  Especially if they see their mum or dad is enjoying what they are studying.

Studying via correspondence also allows me to use Minti whilst typing out assignments.  I just email the text ones to the assessor and she sends out the result after printing it off her computer!  It also means that there is evidence it's been sent if it happens to get lost.  That happened with the last place I studied through, they kept losing assignments and I would have to simply print it off and re-submit.  This way is much better.  And I'm saving heaps on ink!

Re: Back to school (for mommy)
I studied by correspondence.  It was great.  The only time she went to daycare was when I started work but even then at first I had people to care for her rather than have her in daycare.  Now she goes 3 days a week and I wouldn't have her there if there was some other way but it's sometimes a necessity for those of us without family around, or whose family are working also.  All my family are working full time or attend high school so there's no one around to help out.  Doing it by correspondence means a lot of self-discipline is required but it means you get to keep your baby with you.  I wouldn't have had mine away from me when she was that little either.  One day in care while I packed a truck to move was the limit for me, and they got that wrong which put me right off.
