How long awake?

I have a 12 week old baby who is breastfed 3 hourly throughout the day.  Have been having trouble with his daytime naps so am keeping a really close eye on his tired signs.  He will sleep roughly 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours with his naps.

My question is, I am sometimes noticing his tired signs after only being awake for an hour?  Is this not long enough for him to be awake.  Now that he is getting older, should he be waking for longer.  Any longer that I stretch him and he gets overtired and then is harder to resettle.

thanks for your advice

Re: How long awake?

At this age you have to just go along with your baby, like everyone said. THey are still young and most of their days will be mostly sleep. If you can by some miracle keep them awake, you will encounter the same problem you already have - they get over tired and harder to resettle. This is true even as they get older.

It is best to just let your baby sleep as much as she wants when she wants. It isn't bad idea  for you to play with her after she feeds for about 15 minutes or so, or until she wants to go to sleep but just don't stop her from falling asleep.

I have twins who are now 10 weeks and they sleep whenever they want. Sometimes I wish they would sleep more instead of just fussing for an hour or so!

Re: How long awake?
I had the same thing, my baby went from being awake a lot to sleeping a lot, at 12 wks he was only awake for about 2-3hrs a day, basically anything is normal. Let your baby sleep anytime, as long as their night routine stays similar because we dont want night turned to day! As everything is with babies, its just a phase that will pass anyway so dont get too stressed! They also have a growth spurt around this age which can lead to them sleeping more

Re: How long awake?

Hi Hunni just go with the flow if he's tired put him down all bubs are different.

Laura didn't sllep through the night till she was 12 mths and only cat napped during day.

Sophie used to sleep almost 20hrs in a day which was bliss but then I worried she got to much. They are exactly the same now. Laura needs far less sleep than Sophie who still needs to go to bed at 7.30 and she's 10. She sleeps11 hrs more if she could and to be honest the little rat could do with a nap some days lol.

Feed em burb change and put em away was what some one told me and untill I has Sophie I never thought it was true.

Make the most of it they will keep you up at night when they are older and out with their friends aaaarrrrrggggghhhhh

Hope this helps good luck MWHA Jen

Just follow his lead. Every baby is different and has different sleep needs.
