Catheter aftermath

I've had a caesarean and am still sore down there. I had a look at my urethrea...and saw that part of it had scabbed over. Is that normal? I know there was a lot of blood when they took it out.

Re: Catheter aftermath
I have to say it can be. I would have it looked at just to be sure.  If they put it in wrong it can to alot of damage and it can be very sore for a few weeks. That happened to me one time and I screamed when they were trying to put it in.  When they took it out it was even worse.  If there was alot of blood when they took it out chances are they were to rough putting it in, either the wrong size or just not slow enough.  Keep it nice and clean and use witch hazel to help sooth it, but you should have it check to make sure.

Re: Catheter aftermath
This doesn't sound normal. I wasn't even sore after they took mine out. Go see you're OB today! Tell them you need an appointment ASAP. Good luck to you and keep us posted, get well soon!

Re: Catheter aftermath
I had 4 c-sections followed by a hysterectomy and was catherised for each op and had no problems actually one problem was fixed.... my daughter recently was catherised when she had her son and she didnt have this problem. It sounds as if whoever placed or removed it was particularly rough to have caused you an injury such as this, you can assist yourself by taking 10000 mg cranberry tablet, lots of water and either Ural or Citravescant to ensure your urine is not going to worsen the situation. I would suggest a visit to the Dr if you are experiencing to much pain, you think the wound site could be infected or cant pass usrine properly or are simply worried as your Dr is the person who can alleviate your fears properly.

Re: Catheter aftermath
when i had mine taken out there was a lot of blood as well. and i couldn't pee properly for a few days. I'm not sure whether this was normal or not. I know during my caesarean there was some debate between the nurses whether they were doing the right thing...maybe iit could be scab from the afterbleed?

Re: Catheter aftermath
I am a nurse and have never ever heard of a scab after removal of a catheter!  And I have removed a lot of them...And, it isn't normal to bleed when having it removed.  Certainly need to think about how you are feeling before, durning, and after urinating (like previously stated).  I would go and see your GP.  Have you had your 6 week check with the OB yet?  Could always ask on that appointment.  But what ever you do, go see a doctor...that is so not normal.

Re: Catheter aftermath
No that's not normal sounds like they traumatised your urethra when pulling the catheter out, or your body has reacted to the material of the catheter. Are you passing urine ok? Does your bladder still feel full after peeing? You should probably check with the GP. You should have a check up after 6 weeks of delivery of bubs
