What milk to give after breast milk??

I've been breast feeding for 8 months solely and want to wean my daughter off the breast. I have a history of allergies and have been told to try goat's milk as opposed to cow's milk formula to prevent possible allergies. Has anyone given their children goat's milk?If so your experiences please.

It's me again. I have read the other answers, I think I should make this clearly goats milk is ver digestive vs. cow's milk, as I said very similar to mothers milk. But you shouldn't use any of milk before the age of one because babies intestine are very sensitive. But goats milk formula is OK to use.

Yes I have, I was breastfeeding and also giving him goat milk formula. Because goat milk is as close as mothers milk. I can not remember the brand name now. It is produced in New Zealand and Australia starts with K I think. It is absolutely much better then cow's milk formula.

Goats milk shouldn't be given to babies under one, and goats milk  also contains lactose, and the milk proteins are similar to those that cause cow's milk allergy and is very low in folic acid.

It all depends on what sort of allergies you are talking about.  If you have no history of milk protein allergy or lactose intolerance then try Nestle Nan HA, which is a partially hydrolised  formula (pHF) otherwise use Nutramigen, Pregestramil or Alfare which are extensively hydrolised formulas (eHF).

I found this article which goes into it further.

Hope this helps :)

I'm not sure what age goats milk is OK for.  They say cow's milk from about age one but isn't formula cows milk?

My son was on goats milk but he was older than one (can't remember the exact age but younger than two).  He seemed fine with it, my experience i had no problems with it and he seemed ok with the taste too

PS  seem to remember my dr saying something about watering it down in the transition period.  Maybe you could ask your GP or clinic

One way of testing for allergies before committing to a formula could be to buy the sachet packs or trial packs of different ones and use them in the foods, on cereals, in veges, etc and maybe even as just a drink with a meal and do this for a few days to a week to check for any reactions.
