Does this sometimes happen?

My daughter for the past 3 weeks has dropped her late arvo nap (4:30pm -5:15pm) however, yesterday she woke from her arvo nap at 2;45pm and at 4;20 she looked really tired so I put her down and she slept until 5:15pm. Am I confusing her by some days putting her down and other days not?  Or should I just go with her flow?  She is just over 6 months old.

Re: Does this sometimes happen?
It depends how much sleep she has in the morning and lunchtime nap whether she will need a nap in the arvo. Mine is same age and he has 30 mins morning nap, 2 1/4 hours lunchtime and if he is tired I put him down for 5 - 10 mins. At around 4.45pm. This way he still goes to bed a 7pm. If she doesn't get enough sleep in the morning or lunchtime nap then she will need an afternoon nap but at her age she could go without. If mine wakes up early from his lunchtime nap it is either because my 3 year old is being noisy or because he slept too long in the morning. I notice that if he sleeps for 45 mins in the morning he always wakes up after 1 & 1/2 hours from the lunch time sleep. He then makes up for it by sleeping for 30 mins at 4.30pm. Hope this helps x Tania

Re: Does this sometimes happen?
Our 18 month old sometimes has a nap and sometimes not.  We just tend to go with it and let her make the decision.  If she goes to sleep in the arvo, we make sure she doesn't sleep to long.  We need our sleep too!  Just go with it and look for the tired signs.  When they are there, try laying bub down.  if they don't go to sleep, hey, it was worth a try.

Re: Does this sometimes happen?

hi

with charlie when this happened i just followed him on what he wanted to do, and now what i have done so that there is a routine i have pushed what was his morning nap to anywhere between 11:30am and 12:30pm and he will sleep for either an hour or 3, but the best thing that you can do is just follow her lead, good luck

hugs and kisses

I think kids sleep when they are tired, I always let my boys sleep when they wanted too, but never later than about 5ish (it was too hard to get them back to sleep).  So I don't think you are doing anything wrong, I think your daughter will let you know when she wants to sleep.
