Re: temperature fits

hello huggs for you alll// my son has been having fevers ever few weeks since he was 8 months old hes now just over two and a half ,, two of them resulting in febrile convulsions

they can have this at a low grade fever even at 37.00

my sons temp went from that to 40.4 in a matter of seconds

his first fit was at 38.00 that lasted ten min ,, i got him str8 to the docs ( im blessed that theres one right next door to my house ) he went from there str8 to the hospital so they could monitor him

the second febrile convulsion was just two weeks after that that lasted for well over an hour . he had trouble breathing and was on the verge of also having a heart attack

he spent a few days also in hospital ...after that he had night terrors for about two weeks ,,

everytime he now has a fever he sleeps with me .. if he dosent have his meds every three hours apart on the dot his breathing changes and he mumbles and starts to shake ,, it took a little time to work out the signs but i say i got this all worked out now ..

we strip him off when his temps high and dress him fast when he shakes to warm him up again even know his fever is high ,, and he drinks alot of water as its needed to rehydrate him .. wet cloth on his head also

we also now have a fever diary

what we write in is the date he has his fevers the signs just before and that meds at what time that i have given him( just so i dont make any mistakes with that i have given him panadole or nurofen before the last fever high ) and is also good to have the diary to record all the temps and dates for any specialist to read ,,

i also no matter what take him to the docs with every fever as it will also be recored on their computer ,,, with every fever he always dosent have red ears or throat either ..

what we have found that works for us is panadole and 3 hours after that we also give him nurofen this has been working for us as he hasnt had a febril convulsion since but he still gets fevers every few weeks ( hes been going though alot of tests to find out why and we still havnt worked it out yet)

with any febrile convulsion,, hes taken to the hospital ,,,

with all of this been said ... my son woke up looking his weird funny way he does just before his fever starts up again .. i always now make sure that i have his meds on hand ,,

all the best as i know just how scarey this is to see your child go through this xxxx

Re: temperature fits

Hiya

Sorry I can't give much advice as Blake thankfully hasn't gone through this. However my best friends son also suffers from temperature fits, the Dr advised her to not only give him panadol but also nurofen. I am not too sure of the dosage etc I would check with your Dr. By doing this seems to have helped a lot.

Re: temperature fits
i just tried the link and it didn't work. Another way to find it is to do a search on the advice page and it should work that way
