Getting Pregnant

I stopped the pill 5 months ago and haven't had a period yet. Is this normal?

I'm trying to get pregnant but all tests have come back negative.

Re: Getting Pregnant

I was only the pill for 8 years (starting at age 20) before the hubby and I decided to get pregnant. My doctor said to be off of it for about 6 months (while using other forms of contraception) before trying to get pregnant. While I was waiting, I charted my period (look into the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler). On the 5th month, we went for it and got pregnant.

While charting, I found out that I started to ovulate instantly. In reading the book though, i found that some women takes up to a year before they start ovulating and some take shorter.

Re: Getting Pregnant
As has been said already it does take time to fall pregnant specially when coming off the pill (except if your me and fell pregnant 1st baby on the pill and 2nd baby first 2 weeks off pill) I would go and see your GP and go and see a gyno as they can do all the check ups that we all should of got before we started trying or mishaps.

Good luck and let us know how you go

Re: Getting Pregnant
Hi there,

I would suggest that you see your local doctor as you really should have had a period by now. Most people should get a withdrawal bleed or some spotting when they cease using the Pill . .

Good luck with the pregnancy attempts and I hope all goes well at the doctors

Cheers Kellz

Re: Getting Pregnant

Hey Kellz,

I did get some spotting but then nothing. I have been to the doctor but she didn't seem too concerned. Do you think i should get a second opinion?

Re: Getting Pregnant
Hi there Peita,

Yes - I would most definately seek a second opinion! . . .  If you are wanting to attempt to have pregnancies then you can never be too careful about your body. For me (and this is an opinion) i would be freaking if my period disappeared for that long . . .

I have a few friends whom have not been as carfeful and now down the rack they are all having problems to vaying degrees . . .  Luckily they have all manged to have children.

Please seek a second opinion . . 5 months is a awfully long time. Good luck sweetheart

Cheers Kellz

I would definetly get a second opinion.
Something could possibly be wrong and you might not know.
Good luck

Re: Getting Pregnant

Thanks,

I'm 28 and was on the pill for 3 years. i really didn't think it would have this much trouble when i went onto the pill and they never tell you what happens when you go off it.
