Information on Anti-Depressant Drugs

Hi

I was wondering if anyone can give me information about 2 types of anti-depressant drugs and if anyone has taken either of them and how it helped them. Is there a big difference between them? I am taking Lovan 20 TAB and last night i found a prescription that my husband will start taking Zoloft (he didnt mention to me that he went to the doctor).

Thanks

Re: Information on Anti-Depressant Drugs

I am on Zoloft 100mg and have been for over 2 years, I don't think that I am getting off them in a hurry.  They have calmed my anxiety and made my moods more manageable.

The first two weeks on Zoloft were TERRIBLE it was then that my own GP perscribed sleeping tablets as well.  The choice to put me onto Zoloft over other antidepressents was because I was breastfeeding and Zoloft had the least residue in the breast milk.

I don't know much more, but I am very happy with being perscibed Zoloft.

Re: Information on Anti-Depressant Drugs
My husband left me 5 times and was sometimes suicidal. Nothing made him happy.  The state of the house; the kids; something I had said; it actually felt like nothing was ever good enough for him.  I keep trying because I loved him so much and we had 3 kids.

The fifth time he left me, he actually told the kids that our marriage was over.  They were very distressed.  He came back the next day begging my forgiveness and would I let him move back in.  As he had exposed the children to our problems I refused unless he saw a doctor about his behaviour.

The doctor diagnosed clinical depression and over the next few months he tried 3 different antidpressants.  Since being on Zoloft our lives have become normal.  We still have our disagreements but it is very workable.  He has been on Zoloft for about 10 years. The doctors have found that he needs to stay on them probably for life.  He told me he feels different since he has been on them.  He is a much happier person and more level headed.  Not so angry.....For such a long time he seemed to be searching for something in
life that just doesnt exist.

Medically Zoloft and Lovan belong to the same family of antidepressants and so are quite
similar.

I hope your husband feels better once he gets onto the Zoloft.  It can take a few weeks to
be effective, though my husband felt alot better within the first week.
Good luck.

Re: Information on Anti-Depressant Drugs
I have been taking Zoloft now for almost a month. At first it upset my stomach a bit, but now I just take it with food and its fine. I had severe problems with OCD, I just wanted everything to be perfect, all the time. The house always spotless, laundry always done, no dishes in the sink, etc. Now I am more laxed about chores, and I don't have any anxiety problems. I don't worry so much, and I feel relaxed and I sleep better. It basically has changed my life, I can't believe I went so long feeling depressed, anxious, and worrying about stupid things like chores instead of things that are so much more important. I have had great success with this particular drug. My advice to you about your husband not telling you would be that he probably just didn't want to admit he had a problem. I had a terrible time telling my husband (since we are considering divorce and things aren't going well) and telling my parents was hard too. Try to talk to him about it, and be understanding. Good luck to you.

Re: Information on Anti-Depressant Drugs

Hi,

Just wanted to add that you might want to try Omega 3 supplements, they have run several studies at major universities and written about the results in medical  health journals regarding the benefits.  They have even found that it wards off depression in some people almost as well as anti-depressants, without the side effects.

I can honestly say that I have seen a HUGE difference in my moods since I have been on it.  I  wrote an article regarding how it benefits ADHD & Learning Disabilities also.  You can check it out on my minti page.  I have my whole family on it, there are no side effects and many, many benefits besides the ones mentioned above.

I find it's always good to be well informed on all your options.  Hope this helps as yet another alternative.

 Lisa

Yep im with the others, Lovan worked wonders for me. I was on it for approx 6 months & stayed on it until my post natal was gone. I tried several others & none if them had the affect that Lovan did.

Re: Information on Anti-Depressant Drugs
Both of these drugs are both good all rounders. I have been on both. Lovan was better for me than zoloft , but they are both really good for mild depression/ anxiety. go to www.depnet.com.au if you want to chat to others who are on these medications. You can also goggle them to find out more about them.

good luck
