BREASTFEEDING AND PREGNANT AGAIN

My friend has an 8 month daughter who is still breast feeding and she might be pregnant again. Is it okay if she
keeps on breastfeeding or should she stop? If she has to, does anyone have any ideas on how to do this (stop her
baby from the breast).
Thank you in advance.

Re: BREASTFEEDING AND PREGNANT AGAIN
I have read up on this before. There is absolutely no need to stop breaastfeeding although it can get a bit tricky with a belly in the way! The milk thins out and basically turns back into colostrum nearer the due date, it often tastes different too. It s a great bonding experience for all three of them and the breasts can easily produce enough for both kids. Hope it goes ok :)

Re: BREASTFEEDING AND PREGNANT AGAIN
I agree with the others.  It could go one of 2 ways, she might find bub weans herself from the breast, she may find bub wants it more.  The taste does change which is why babies may wean, but also babies have been known to feel insecure if changes happen that they're unsure of, and insecurity can cause babies to feed more often.  You can feed during pregnancy without any hassles from it, but it's best to speak with a lactation consultant and a doctor who is familiar with breastfeeding.  Most doctors don't know enough about breastfeeding to recommend continuing to breastfeed if they're uncertain.  There has been an article on Minti about breastfeeding during pregnancy.  It's also nice, and safe, to breastfeed a baby and a toddler at once.  I knew a lady who was breastfeeding 3 children who were 11 months apart in age each.  She did so successfully and each baby self-weaned before their 3rd birthday, and each baby was plump and healthy and she didn't suffer any from it.

Re: BREASTFEEDING AND PREGNANT AGAIN

Its fine to continue breastfeeding but the amount will reduce and the breasts will start to make colostrum for the new bub (which is quite salty tasting) so she might find her daughter will wean herself. This is what happened to my daughter and I. If she wants to stop her daughter breastfeeding altogether, wean her slowly off the breast. Start reducing the amount of breastfeeds every couple of days by one and replacing them with a cup of formula, she doesn't need a bottle now. Hope this helps!

Re: BREASTFEEDING AND PREGNANT AGAIN

You can definately still breastfeed while pregnant, however, the breastmilk may taste different and babies have been known to reject the breast because of the taste. If this is the case buy some formula for the 8 month old and have plenty of water on offer. If the baby won't take the bottle just keep offering water and the breast and bubs will make up their mind as to what they will put up with.

Good luck
