HELP ME PLEASE

Hi all I'm having issues with my son Joseph who is 4yrs 7mths old. He has been fully toilet trained since he was 2 and a half, but recently he has been occaisionally pooing his pants.

Mostly it's a bit more than skid marks but a couple of times his pants have been full. He won't tell me that he has done it either he just keeps on playing. He keeps telling me he just waited too long to go, but i don't think thats it.

I've just wormed him as he complained of an itchy bottom, could this have something to do with it. He has soiled his pants for the last 3 days in a row (twice yesterday) and he was wormed 5 days ago.

I'm about to try and toilet train Harrison who turns 2 in Dec and i'm due to have my bub in March so I really need help to get this sorted now. I really need help!

Re: HELP ME PLEASE

I believe the term for this little habit is Encopresis. It is common in children who feel insecure about their position within their familial group. You say you are about to have a lovely new addition to the family, new sibling on the horizon is a very common trigger for the condition.

I believe there is an excellent article on this condition under " chronic constipation" in the minti archive.I am sure I saw it recently. I think it was by chrysilis?

You could also try and google the term. There is lots of info out there in the eather on this.

Best Wishes.Winnie.x

Re: HELP ME PLEASE
I remember when my younger brother was six and he did this a few times. Mum had to sit him down and explain that nobody likes it when someone poos their pants, that it smells etc. At the end of the day they need the truth, in the nicest way possible he needs to know that he won't have friends if he poos in his pants. He was more careful after that, and mum had already had the talk so she ignored it the next time. I actually think it was attention seeking because we had just moved in with my mums partner. He only did it once more. For your son I would believe him that it was an accident if it was only a small amount, and runny. If firm then you know he must have done it deliberately - especially if it has been several times lately. After you talk to him you can't acknowledge it, as this is giving him exactly what he wants - attention. It might have something to do with the new addition on the way, trying to be a baby again etc. Good luck, its a tough one and can lead to a lot of bullyimg if it continues.

Re: HELP ME PLEASE

Do not panic if you are. This can happen. You say that you are training ypur 2 yo so he could try attract your attention. So do the same training with him. Also it could be worms as well. Try to be patient and reward him when he goes to toilet

Love
