Do you Tag and add Related Articles?

HI Minti'ers,

When you read an article on Minti, do you tag it and add related articles?

Please let me know in the comments below.

The reason I ask is that it only takes a minute or so to do these things and it helps this site in a number of ways...

tagging helps the article come up in relevant Minti and also Google search results.
adding related links help readers find other relevant articles on the same topic.

Also.. I guess I should be asking... do you know how to Tag an article and also how to add Related Links?

I tag my own articles. I try to link advice on my own articles but have never thought of doing so on others. After reading the comments below, will start to do so.

Oh-and I appreciate what Lui is saying about the linking of your own advice with some that you might not want it linked to....not sure how to handle that. Can you unlink your own advice if you don't want it there?

that's a good question, that I am not sure of.
I am guessing you can in some instances and not in others... it gets complicated... wont go into it here

I do, however I usually ask the members first (if they are online regularly), and only try to link with other similar, or like-minded advice articles.

I personally wouldn't want some of my stuff linked to some other advice articles with similar titles as sometimes the articles aren't very good, or disagree entirely with the point I am trying to convey.

good point, hopefully people only link only to other relevant articles... however it may be useful for people to read and view apposing view points... ie: breast v bottle fed ;)

i like to think of it this way... the article is the authors property, but the tags, links and comments are the property of everyones.

Hmmmm, I must admit that I have never tagged an article, and I also must admit that I didn't know you could and lastly I must admit that I don't really don't know what tagging is all about.

May be I should be more aware and read up tagging in the advice section. Infact I have just been there and it seems that there is not one article just on tagging it is all about Minti so you have to search through it. Maybe someone could write and article on tagging. I would, but I don't know anything about it.

here is a perfect example of an article that has just been created and has NO tags and NO related advice links (yet... until someone adds some off course).

Please have a look at the article now, you will see top right there is a "tags" area and a link to "add a tag". Also below the article you will see a "related advice" area where you can "add a link".

Please have a go and let me know how you get on

Thanks clay,

I just added a tag, I must admit I did find it a bit confusing as when I clicked on the tag I wanted it came up in the left had corner but there was no link to save it or add it. So I left the page thinking that I hadn't added the tags, yet when I returned to the article there was my tags. Should there be a link? to say add that then takes you back to the article to see that the tags have been added??

i believe on the right hand side it suggests tags and says "click tag to add".
On the left is your tags and the authors tags.
In your part (left) you also have a box to type and click "add tag".
The links on the left are actually tags you have added or the author has added. Hope that makes sense...

that's a good point, it hadnt been tagged thoroughly itself! ;)
I just added a few more relevant tags and now when you search add a tag on minti it comes up number 1 in the search results. see here.

I have done a couple of related articles links. But I haven't done the tagging mostly because the list of tags already used is pretty extensive usually.

yes very true, sometimes articles are already well tagged.
one thing that is not known though is that if more than one person tags the article the same tag... this boosts the article even more in the search results.
Note: it is infinite the number of people that can tag the same tag.

it's something that we havent published anywhere but here I believe.
I guess we should make it clearer, as it would probably help insentavise (sorry about spelling there) people to tag items more often.

Yes i do , and have done in the past with some of my articles...

and i agree it does help to read other advises, as everyone has diffrent ways....
