Period problem.

Should i be concerned?

I'm 23, and have had my period normally since i was 13. I have had 2 kids. My last was born just over a year ago. And things were working fine. But lately things have become weird. i am suffering from painfull cramps. Something that has never suffered before. And the colour is no longer red but black. It also is more mucusy. (i know Too much information.) Its really weird and stressing me out but how do i know if this is normal? Has anyone else had this?

Please help me. I don't want to go to the doc for something that is normal.

Thanks.

Re: Period problem.
Definately go and see your doctor. My sis-in-law had similar problems for about 18mths after she had her 1st and shes just been diagnosed with Endometriosis. It also could be that you have some old lining in there left over from when you had your baby, the sooner you get seen the better.

Re: Period problem.
Unlike yourself, since having my kids my periods are pathetic.  Hardly anything, no cramps etc.  This could be hormonal, I'm not sure how long ago it was that you had your last child.  Have you started a new pill, something different than you were taking before the kids were born?  If the periods continue to be the same, like for 2 or three I would consult my doctor.

It is better to get it checked out.  Post baby, things can change, but if there is a dramatic change in pain levels or flow, then it is better to get it checked out.  Don't be embarrassed about it, doctors are there to help you and it could mean you have a slight infection that they need to treat.  Hope this helps.

I would go to the doctor to check. Its not so much the symptoms, but the fact that they have changed. Go to check it out. Either you'll find something which you need to know about, or you'll put your mind to rest. Go make an appointment!

Re: Period problem.
Any change is what usually happens needs to be investigated, if only to let you know it is normal. After my 3rd child, my periods came back, lots of pain, lots of clots, dark dark red blood. Ended up having a D&C to get rid of all the lining and start again. Leisa

Re: Period problem.
If this was me I would be booking an appointment. If all was well before then it would concern me. I am not a doctor and have not had these symptoms so someone else may have a clearer picture for you but I think it is worth the appointment to check. Did you have all the checks after your daughter was born? When was your last pap smear? All these factors I would look at and  for peace of mind a trip to the doctor is worth it.
