9 month old not sleeping through?

Hi,

My 9 month old daughter does not sleep thru. She wakes up sometimes once or twice a night. She eats only fruit & veggies as I've researched that their digestive systems are quite delicate so have not introduced any protein into her diet yet.

She is on goats milk and only has 2 breast feeds in the morning & the evening. She eats very well and large quantities throughout the day, but when she wakes up giving her the dummy is not enought she must have what i call a 'comfort feed' to go back to sleep.

She then wakes up at around 5am and then has her milk bottle, and later her breakfast.

Do all babies sleep through at different ages? should i be concerned?

your views would be appreciated...and thank you!!

regards,

lisaxx

Re: 9 month old not sleeping through?
Mine is 9 months too.  She too has same sleeping problems.  after she has done her last feeding of the day, at night, she basically falls asleep on my boobs, the second i put her in her crib , she will cry and not stop until i hold her.  Not that she is hungry just that she wants me to be with her.  As i know that my husband is going to be distracted, i take her to the spare room and feed her again but then i try do put her in her crib when she has dozed off, the same thing again, so finally i give up and fall asleep with her in the spare room.  For some reason, babies like moms warmth and the smell of the boobs.  I have read in some article that this is quite normal behaviour.  I shall Mintimail you the advice.  Hope it helps.
            GOOD LUCK !

mine is 9 months and has slept through 2 times since birth :) both because of growth spurts lol. all babies are different, but again you may see a change with the addition of protein rich food

MIne is 8 months and still is not sleeping through the night.  We are doing the same with breast feeding as well.  I have started giving him fortified baby cereal right before bed and that seems to be stretching his sleep out a little longer.  I think it makes him feel more full than when he just has fruit or vegetables.

Re: 9 month old not sleeping through?

Sorry hun,but are you aware that babies from 6 months need more protein per weight than mummy does. Children need protein to help bone, muscle, especially the heart muscle, ocular, and brain developement. Goats milk is only beneficial if it is fortified with essential nutrients, so it should idealy be goats milk formula. If you really dont wish to introduce meat, then introduce a few blackeyed beans and green lentils. Your bub should really be taking a little rice or oats, to build her bowel tone. Their are lots of alternatives to meat, try ,a little fish, or cheese, eggs, yoghurt, fromage frais.Try and look up some vegetarian baby websites, there is lots of alternatives for bubs who have digestive troubles. Babies under 12 months are recommended as having not less than 1 pint of milk a day, preferably two, or so the bub nutritionists at our local hospital inform me. I was concrened at the amount of milk my two were consuming, over and above their food. Good luck and may be if you bulk bub up a bit she may, sleep a little more soundly, or maybe she just wants mummies comfort in the night.

Best Wishes. Winnie.x

Hi there!

I agree with the others and you will prob find if you fed her a balanced diet with meat ect she might sleep abit longer for you as she is full. I dont know about the goats milk???? but im not a good person to talk to about that as both my kids were on cows milk by that stage.

Re: 9 month old not sleeping through?
Infants do need to have a balanced food pyramid, so unless you have medical advice specifically for your child to the contrary, it would be wise to include protein in her diet.  There is a lot of advice on healthy snacks and meals for infants and toddlers on the site - you could do a search for it.

As Winja said, goat milk really isn't sufficient for her dietry needs at this time either, for supplementing breast feeds, it is probably best to use formula, unless you have had specific advice to the contrary from a medical professional.

Babies can sleep through at this age, however to wake once or twice a night isn't terribly unusual.  If a feed is what gets her back to sleep, then stick with it.  Things change, they go through different stages with growth spurts and dietry changes.  It sounds like you are doing a great job, and soon enough, you will both get to sleep through the night.

Re: 9 month old not sleeping through?
lots of babies dont sleep thru at 9 months so so i wouldnt be worried if i were you. your bubs supply of iron is gone by 6 months so u need to give her iron in some form green veg is good for this, she really should still be having formula or breastmilk at this age to give her her nutritional requirements tho she wont get that out of goatsmilk i know that wasnt a part of the question but i had to add it

And to add to that, meat is the best source for iron as it's easily absorbed by the body, however, leafy green veg and most wheat products also are high in iron, but ya need to consume them with something containing vitamin c for the iron to be properly absorbed. Hence why they say a bowl of wheat cereal and a glass of orange juice for breaky is good.
