Ideas for Halloween

Coming up at my Playgroup we are doing a Halloween theme next week.  Since i'm on that activity i was wondering if anyone had some ideas for a craft project the children could do?

The kids are fairly young and range from about 18 months to 4 years.  So it would have to be a simple and reasonably quick activity to do in say about 1/2 hour.

Any ideas would really help....Thanks

Julie

Re: Ideas for Halloween
i think decorating simple masks (lone ranger style) that you buy at the dollar store should be an easy craft that transcends your various ages.

Re: Ideas for Halloween
Thx for all of those suggestions.  I've been out and got some black and orange card to make cat and pumpkin masks.  Got some decorations to hang up and even a scary noise cd (hope it doesn't freak them too much!!) but i couldn't resist.......

Re: Ideas for Halloween

John and I will get a white shower liner curtain from out local dollar store.  Cut into 12" squares, find the center, then stuff with cotton fluff, kleenex, paper towel, anything really, then make a face with perminent marker...for little ghosts.  When making the head, tie enough string round  neck so you can loop 'ghost' in a tree....very cute, easy, and fun....look pretty cool too if you have about 20 of them in one tree....all blowing in the wind.

Also for christmas decorations, we have started to collect acorn shells, let them dry out, paint red or green, makes little bells, with a tough of ribbon, or an ornament hook poked through with a very slim sharp poke to make a small  hole for ornament h ook, or a touch of ribbon, with a knot on bottom for bell, then about an inch up another knot ribbon pushed through top to hang o n tree.

Good luck, Take care, Simba1

A cool addition to this idea is to stuff the 'ghost' with a bouncy ball (try to choose one that isn't too hard, so if it accidentally hits someone it doesn't hurt), then the ghost can 'fly' around and provide even more fun.

Yeah, thanks.  Last time i did  a Ghost made from a white balloon and white plastic shopping bags, they were sorta cute.  I knew Minti was a great place to ask this Q because of the people in the US who celebrate Hallooween, thx

Re: Ideas for Halloween
Paint faces on pumpkins... I went to the botanical gardens here in Montreal today, and they had some really well done pumpkins..

Kids stuck all sorts of things on them... Bottle caps, paper, stickers, spaghetti...

You could just give them a pumpkin and tell them to put a face on it...

Re: Ideas for Halloween
you could make scary masks like black cats, bats, ghosts, pumpkins, spiders..., all u need is paper / cardboard and some elastic and a hole punch, that way all ages can get involved.

Re: Ideas for Halloween
You can use paper plates for this as well. Just cut out eye holes and punch holes in the side for elastic, or stick a paddle pop stick on the bottom for them to hold.

Re: Ideas for Halloween
When my kids were too young to help carve pumpkins we would buy the mini pumpkins ( they are usually no more that.50 cent per) and break out the markers feathers and other crafts things , they could draw a silly or scary face whatever they wanted , use the feathers and some glue to make the pumpkins some hair , lol , they always had fun making them and showing them off
