5 year old boys

Oh my god.  I need help with our five year old son.  He is tooooo active, tooooo naughty, tooooo rude, just unbelievable uncontrollable at the moment.

It does not matter if we smack (oops, i didn't say that) or time out, any sort of dicipline, toys away, banned from things etc. He just continues with his behaviour.

LOUD - he does not shutup.

If anyone can help or give us any advice on this please do so as we are ready to give him away.   As much as we love and adore him he was always such a nice and polite little boy, but lately the tantrums and general behaviour is unbearable, i don't know if he's just ready for school as he is going next year and that he is bored or what, but please help.

thanks.  Lauren.

my cousins son as this same problem. Try the ignoring thing as others have suggested but also look at sugars and preservatives. cousin took her son off most preservative and he is a different child.

Oops forgot to mention - get him to burn off that extra energy. A big walk everyday, a trampoline, a swim. Anything to get rid of the excess energy. I notice a big difference in Bryns behaviour when he is physically worn out :)

Why don't you look at his diet? Too much sugar or additives can cause this. Look long and carefully at what you give him to eat. fresh fruit, veg and no or few additives might help.

Re: 5 year old boys
well my three year old had gone through this phase some months back but five year old is a bit too old phases so from what i understand i think you should start ignoring him. when everybody in the household start ignoring his tantrum he will realise that its not having an effect so he will stop it by himself.. dont worry you will get over it ..like we all did and still do.. lol

Re: 5 year old boys
It sounds like you need to enforce the art of ignorance. If he starts yelling or throwing a tantrum, try saying in a calm voice, I will not listen to you when you scream, talk to me when you are quiet and I will listen to you, turn your back and walk away. When he is calm, then you talk to him, making sure that you thank him for talking quietly, and listen to what he wants. Same with being rude etc. You can also try the "i love you but I don't like your behaviour right now."

I have 3 very loud boys, ranging from 6 to 16. I am also a very loud person, but my kids know if I go quiet, then the proverbial is gonna hit the fan if they don't behave in a reasonable manner. I do a lot of yelling and yes I do smack my kids if they are misbehaving but it is not often.

Hopethis helps a little bit. Leisa
