Does Father Christmas exist?

My 9 year old daughter asked me if Father Christmas existed. I was busy and didn't answer. She got distracted... But how to tell your child the truth?

Do what most parents do.. Let them figure it out for themselves... :) My step daughter got wise when she saw that I used the same wrapping paper that santa used to wrap her daddies present... LOL By that stage she was starting to get wise to it anyway...  I think she was around 8 years old...

When they finally figure it out, you can start buying less presents... They just get more expensive... :)

Re: Does Father Christmas exist?
I got around it by asking "what do you think?" If the kids came back with so and so said that he doesn't, and that your parents give you presents,  I always told the kids that we just wanted to give you some special presents from us as well cause Santa can't give as many toys to older kids.  Make sure that there is always a present or two marked from you as well as the ones that santa leaves. Hope this helps. Leisa

Re: Does Father Christmas exist?
No, it doesn't help, as I've been doing this so far - she knows that little children get more presents from Santa then adults.  Recently two boys on two separate occasions told my daughter that Santa doesn't exist. I pretended I didn't hear, but can't pretend too long, as Christmas is coming...
Thanks any way

Then I suggest telling her the truth. No santa doesn't exist anymore but tell her about the original one.

Well the truth is, santa is based on a real person and his actions.

So maybe this site might be able to help you with some info!

Re: Does Father Christmas exist?

I was about to suggest the same sort of thing: he was real once a pon a time, but now we have "Santa Clause" (which is I think Spanish for Saint Nicholas) as a reminder of his good deeds, but the people in the red suits aren't actually the real Santa, but the represent the ideals and charity that he stood for.

My biggest problem isn't going to be Santa, but the Easter Bunny. I was silly enough to convince my son that the bunny was real and my family even looked after him twice! Long story, I'll blog about it at easter time. LOL

Thanks a lot! That will help. My daughter love computers, so I'll just show her the site. I would prefer she knows the truth now, rather then learning it with teasing on the playground...
